Today the OTF Sideline Debate turns to recruiting and asks: Who’s the most important Texas visitor this weekend? Take a look! Bobby Burton — CB Trenton Blaylock “I really like Blaylock. I like his length, his speed, the fact that his dad is a former NFL guy. I think he’s a future NFL corner himself. I know he’s not as highly ranked as others, but this has to be an uphill battle against the Sooners. If the Horns can somehow connect here, I think it would be a major win and a major upset.” Gerry Hamilton — EDGE Jabarrius Garror “Texas is set to lose Colin Simmons after the season to the NFL and that impact will be felt will be tremendous by Texa…

Texas baseball is headed to Omaha this morning, a trip the program has made a record 39 times. It will be the first trip under second-year head coach Jim Schlossnagle. This will be Schloss’ eighth trip to Omaha (five at TCU and two at A&M). Schloss will join us this morning on Coffee & Foorball before the team heads out. ** Recruiting. Recruiting. Recruiting. Texas coaches hit the trail this spring and I think they’re getting ready to enjoy some of the fruits of their labor this week. Texas is in excellent shape across the board at multiple positions. Gerry, Jordan, Hank and CJ have chronicled many of those. But I want to add som…

Texas has earned a commitment from 2025 Dallas Skyline linebacker Elijah Barnes who made his announcement Friday afternoon. Barnes was on campus in Austin April 6 for an unofficial where he was the only linebacker in the 2025 class to visit for the weekend. He left with a special playbook in hand from Johnny Nansen as well which was a pretty strong indication of where things were trending. A big get for Johnny Nansen who makes his first splash as the Longhorns' linebackers coach since being hired. Barnes told me he loved the scrimmage he saw Saturday morning and now, there will be no more waiting for the Texas staff. "I liked the intensity that they br…

This weekend saw the Texas Longhorns basketball program add three players out of the NCAA Transfer Portal, a noticeable splash that Rodney Terry likely recreated Saturday afternoon as he and the Longhorn staffed paraded around on Lady Bird Lake via barge. It was a confusing and frustrating 2023-24 campaign. As Texas consistently lacked any sort of consistency or identity. Was it entirely Rodney Terry's fault? Likely not. But there was still moments that lead to some questions about his long term status as the Longhorns head coach. However, Terry made sure to leave to room for question about the identity he wants to have for the upcoming Texas basketball team. …

There remain a couple more Longhorns who are expected to enter the portal. None of them are starters. I originally expected 6-8 Longhorns to enter the portal. With 7 already entered, I’d adjust that number upward — 9-11 seems more like it at this point.

With the NFL Draft coming up tonight, I'm thinking back to each of the Longhorns draft hopefuls, and what their individual best plays were as a Longhorn. It's my way of saluting them and what they did on the 40 Acres. Of course, many of them had multiple outstanding plays. But what was their very best? Here's my take (and by the way - this is a topic Rod, CJ and Coach Shipley are also going to tackle in this afternoon's The Winning Drive on YouTube): Byron Murphy - the fourth-down pass rush versus Kansas State was a thing of beauty. And it wasn't even so much of how fast he got into the backfield and disrupted the player. Rather, it was the fact that M…

The Texas One Fund has made history with a new brand partnership announced Thursday. Texas One Fund announced a collaboration with the Passes, a creator monetization platform, for 40 of the top male and female athletes currently residing on The 40 Acres. Passes made headlines earlier this spring with the signing for LSU gymnast and social media star Livvy Dunne to a reported multi-million dollar and now The University of Texas joins the fold as the first collective to join the platform. So far, members of the football, both men's and women's basketball, softball, volleyball and baseball have all signed up for the platform. Passes provides an opportunity for…

The final week of official visits has concluded and the returns continue to file in. While Texas hosted seven members of its 2025 recruiting class, there was plenty of opportunities over the weekend for Texas to continue its good standing with several uncommitted top prospects. *** WR Jaime Ffrench – Jacksonville (Fla.) Mandarin Battle: Texas, Tennessee, LSU Trending: Texas remains atop the list I felt good about this recruitment coming into the weekend and I feel good about it now. Texas made a massive move in the spring and it is continuing to pay off as Ffrench was given priority treatment on the official visit over the weekend. A decision date…

Hump day afternoon recruiting juice The Texas Longhorns are set to go on a recruiting run in the next three weeks. And OnTexasFootball believes the Longhorns could vault into the top 5 class ranking area come early August. There are a number of decisions that OTF is monitoring coming up, and we take a look at those with an eye on the West Coast first. Going back to Cali, styling, profiling? The Texas staff is awaiting a pair of decisions in the state of California. Four-star cornerback Dijon Lee (Mission Viejo, Calif./High) is one OnTexasFootball is monitoring ahead of his June 28 noon EST commitment. Alabama is the popular pick in the industry…

A quick recap in where things sit right now in the 2025 Texas class. It is July 10 and the Longhorns currently sit with 13 commits in the class with a ranking right around 20. It may not be exactly where you would have hoped to have seen Texas at this point in the year, however there remains plenty of opportunities this month for some dominoes to fall favorably. We are in a bit of a waiting game in the world of recruiting at the moment. Hurricane Beryl has delayed the announcements of several Texas targets, leaving the door open for flips and final pitches to be extended. However, I am of the belief that these decisions have been made and staffs have been mostly…

Five-star visitor locked in for Thursday OnTexasFootball mentioned the potential of a Thursday unofficial visit by Galveston (Texas) Ball High 5-star ranked safety Jonah Williams. Around noon Saturday, OTF spoke with a family member of Williams', and the 6-3, 205 pound two-sport star will be on campus in Austin July 25 with at least one parent. Williams, a left handed outfield and pitcher, is currently in the Atlanta area playing in a wood bat tournament for top high high school baseball prospects in the 2025 cycle. He threw 109 pitches in a recent start, topping out at 94 MPH. Williams is a legitimate MLB Draft prospect in June of 2025, and whatever col…

A few team notes headed into Saturday night practice OnTexasFootball has picked a up a few team notes ahead of practice Saturday night. Silas Bolden Bolden's explosiveness, extremely quick feet and fearlessness have been documented already thus far. OTF is adding something new on the 5-8, 160 pound Oregon State transfer. Bolden is already being called the most physical blocker at the wide receiver position. Doesn't that mean he's the best blocker? OTF isn't saying that because he lacks size, but his effort is that of the most physical in the room. The source OTF spoke with believe Bolden can play in the NFL, and could even be drafted despite his size…

Latest on Michael Terry III The Texas Longhorns pursuit of San Antonio (Texas) Alamo Heights 4-star++ athlete Michael Terry III continues to be all in. Steve Sarkisian, A.J. Milwee, Tashard Choice and Chris Jackson are all part of the recruitment of Terry for the Horns. The visits to Nebraska was a positive one, but maybe not a home run. That's not to say the Cornhuskers aren't under consideration, as they are. Oregon remains a school Terry III also likes, but that distance is the potential sticking point in the circle. Ducks offensive coordinator and Austin native Will Stein has done a very good job keeping Oregon in the top group despite the dista…

Wanted to get a few notes on the board in regards to where prospects will be visiting this weekend. *** Additional Colorado State Visitors Texas will mostly be hosting area 2026 recruits and some committed members of the 2025 class. It is not expected to be a heavily-attended weekend on campus, after all it is a 2:30 kickoff, right in the dead heat of the afternoon and the marquee matchups later in the season at home provide better opportunities to impress. A few Central Texas 2026 prospects who have been invited to attend the game on Saturday: 2025 TE Eddie Robinson – Manor (TX) High ... offers from UMHB, Lamar, Austin Peay 2026 WR Brock…

The festivities have begun. Gerry Hamilton and I are out here at Firewheel Golf Course in Garland this morning for the annual Get Teed Off at OU golf tournament benefitting the Dallas Texas-Exes scholarship fund. It's going to be a fun day. More than 250 Longhorns are participating in the event and they're coming from all over the state and country. ** The commit of Daylan McCutcheon caught many by surprise but not us. We began hearing about a week before his visit for the Mississippi State game that conversations with the Longhorns were turning more serious and that his thoughts on the situation at Florida State had become more dire. While o…

Four-star DE from out of state announcing commitment Thursday Medina (Tenn.) South Gibson 2026 EDGE Yahya Gaad made an unofficial visit to Texas November 23 for the game vs. Kentucky. And upon arriving in Austin, Texas defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski extended an offer to the 6-foot-5, 257-pounder. “It (the visit) was amazing. Greatest place I've been to. Loved the city, people and program. I talk to Coach Pk. I'm talking with him about every single day. He tells me that I’m on their radar, and one of their top guys. He’s a great guy. Texas is recruiting as an edge." The Texas offer followed junior season offers by Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Kentu…

BOOM! Texas has landed another commitment, this time from Amarillo Palo Duro wide receiver Kyron Brown. At 6-foot, 185 pounds, Brown chose the Longhorns over Kansas State, Northwestern, and Baylor amongst nearly two dozen other offers. Brown joined NOLA Brother Martin’s Easton Royal and North Forney’s Briceson Thrower as the third wide receiver in the Longhorns’ 2027 class. This recruitment was eerily similar to Kohen Brown’s recruitment in that things came together quite quickly as Brown picked up his offer after camping at Texas on June 3rd and is now committed less than three weeks later. Brown was originally leaning towards Kansas State and …

Sierra Canyon DL Kasi Currie and Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central DL Tyler Alexander as the third defensive linemen in the Longhorns’ 2027 class. The Humble Atascocita product committed to the Texas staff during his June 19-21 official visit. The University of Texas has the best athletics department in the country after hoisting yet another Director's Cup. It is the fifth Director's Cup in the last six athletic seasons for Chris Del Conte and the Longhorns. With National Championships in volleyball, softball, golf, men's tennis, rowing and track & field in the time span, Texas has certainly added to the trophy room in the north end zone Hall of Fame. Football has come close, women's basketball let one get away, baseball made a trip to Omaha this year and men's basketball is looking promising. Altogether, it is hard to be displeased with the product on the field across all Texas Athletics as …
