2025 Duncanville QB Keelon Russell has flipped his commitment from SMU to Alabama. Texas hosted Russell on Sunday, April 21, the day after the spring game in Austin. The Texas Junior Day will kickoff this weekend to truly commence the start of the 2026 class for the Texas staff. Of course, the staff has been on the road in DFW, California and the deep south this week, but the first true on-campus event always hits a bit differently for recruits in the current class. Eau Gallie, Fla., defensive lineman Brandon Brown, who is committed to Texas, has made it to LSU for his official visit this weekend to LSU. He plans to visit Tennessee next weekend, and then Texas the following week. But he has changed some other plans. Brown was slated to visit either USC or A&M the final week of June. Texas will host San Jose State cornerback Jayvion Cole for a visit beginning around noon this afternoon. Cole will remain on campus for his visit with Texas through Saturday as the staff presents its best pitch to the All-Mountain West honorable mention in 2023. The Longhorns are looking to add to the cornerback room following the portal departures of Terrance Brooks and Austin Jordan earlier in the portal window. According to PFF, Cole allowed 22 receptions in 48 targets for a 45.8% completion percentage against. PFF awarded Cole an 84.0 grade in coverage and a 86.2 grade overall defensively. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Texas RB Savion Red is expected to announce his entry to the NCAA Transfer Portal during the window this month. Red played in 12 games in 2023 where he had 30 rushing attempts for 131 yards.
