It has been a hot topic of conversation this offseason – what is the next step for QB Quinn Ewers? Of course the play on the field immediately comes to mind, but perhaps the largest leap could come in the huddle and locker room. Race for the No. 1 recruiting class in 2026 The Texas Longhorns are squarely in the mix for the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle after a very strong last half of July. When looking at the teams that are truly in the hunt for the top ranked class, there six teams with a realistic shot. Those schools are Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Ohio State. Notre Dame is currently a top 5 level class, but doesn't have the runway to be in the mix for the No. 1 class as it stands today. What's Next in the Texas RB Room *** The news of Tre Wisner's portal entrance was unfortunate for me. Wisner was one of the first recruits I covered from the very beginning of his recruitment. According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Texas RB Savion Red is expected to announce his entry to the NCAA Transfer Portal during the window this month. Red played in 12 games in 2023 where he had 30 rushing attempts for 131 yards. Texas is still in a fine position in the running back room with the return of Jaydon Blue and CJ Baxter leading the way, as well as the spring emergence of Tre Wisner.
