  1. Today, the rest of college sports is finding out what Texas fans already knew. Texas Tech is a joke. It’s leadership, it’s moral compass. Anything and everything about the school and how it conducts itself is awash in the putrid smell of the vomit emanating via the gall of its biggest donor. Texas Tech backed its quarterback who bet on his own team and who earlier today received an injunction from a court that will make him eligible to play this season. It’s an outrageous outcome that is only eclipsed by the outrageous response of its mega-donor and chairman of the board, Cody Campbell. “This unfortunate situation is the outcome of a broken system…

  3. Some Wednesday AM Recruiting Thoughts 1. Texas has continued to battle for 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala./High), as we have said. Everything we have heard for weeks is a Bama vs. Texas decision likely with Georgia and Auburn the other OV's. And that has also been Bama having the most confidence since early May. The Longhorns are considered the competition for the Crimson Tide due in part to Ezavier and mom both truly liking the Texas program and everything it can provide. 2. Confidence remains in Austin on OTF 5-star OT John Turntine III. With that said, OTF doesn't believe he has informed the winning school of his decision ahead of the Ju…

  6. Started by Bobby Burton,

Today, Jan. 23, is the last day for the SEC and Big 10 commissioners to come to an agreement on the future of the college football playoff. The SEC wants an expansion to 16 teams. The Big 10 prefers an expansion to 24. Both parties must agree on any changes to the existing agreement. The SEC is said to be unwilling to go to 24. Without that guarantee, the Big 10 is likely to block a slightly expansionary move to 16 (or even 14). If there is an impasse, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey seems ok with keeping the current 12-teams format intact. ** But who really cares about the playoff format? Any change to it is like putting lipstick on a pig.…

  8. Longhorns have opportunity to rebound this week on the trail Steve Sarkisian and staff suffered a couple of tough losses on the trail last week in 4-star++ OT Malakai Lee and 4-star++ defensive lineman James Johnson. Those are two prospects OTF expects Texas to recruit until signing day in December. That Longhorns begin the week with a class ranked anywhere from 10 to 13 with the possibility to ascend into the top 5 with some big decisions on deck. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the week ahead for the staff. Kendall Guervil ... Six games in, we have now reached the midway point in the season. And some Texas players who have not seen much action (playing in four games or less) are making and/or contemplating decisions about redshirting and then possibly transferring. Yesterday, we heard of one such player who is opting to take the redshirt with the intent of entering the portal in December. He will not play the rest of the season. While we are not going to name the player until he or the team announces it, I can say the player is not a front-line player and really does not have a clear path to the field or to be a large contributor long-term at Texas. Bottom line: these things…

As Steve Sarkisian has started his spring practice exit interviews, there has been some potential movement behind the scenes. Just so everyone is aware, we are hearing of a returning Longhorns defensive starter potentially hitting the portal. However, no decision has been finalized to our knowledge. And I want to make sure everyone understands I italicized the word “potentially” for a reason. We’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours and update accordingly. The deadline to enter the portal ends April 30.

  11. I am told that Texas will have no additional players to add to the portal that haven’t already been poplulated. In other words, the portal window for attrition has officially closed. The Horns remain otherwise intact. The player who had contemplated going into the portal has now signed to return to Texas. ** Texas is in wait and see mode to some degree. Which players will go into the portal on Tuesday/Wednesday? Will any players in the national championship game tonight head to the portal in the five days that follow? ** Westlake product Bray Lynch, a two-year starter at guard for Indiana, has been mentioned by some as a possible po…

  13. SEC Tournament Hoops: Texas vs. Ole Miss Game Thread Texas (18-13, 9-9) takes on Chris Beard's Ole Miss Rebels (12-19, 4-14) tonight in the first round of the 2026 SEC Tournament. The game tonight is straight over tackle in terms of NCAA Tournament possibilities for the Longhorns. A win, and Texas will be in the Big Dance as a 10 seed most likely due to six Quad 1 wins. A loss will send Texas to the "First Four" play in game, or one of the first 2-3 teams out of the tournament depending on how conference tournaments shake out. Texas won the first meeting 79-68 in Austin February 7. The game When: 6 p.m. CT Where: Bridgestone Arena (Nashville, Tenn…

  15. Started by Bobby Burton,

The final day for a typical portal transfer to enroll at Texas and be eligible for spring ball was Friday. Texas could, however, try to add someone this week. From an academic standpoint, they would have to get permission from a dean. ** There has been no news on Indiana offensive guard Bray Lynch and whether or not he has elected to enter the transfer portal. IMO no news is good news… for Indiana. ** Miami linebacker Raul Aguirre entered the portal. He is a player to watch, but only IF he’s willing to compete for playing time. One item that shrinks the pool of players open to Texas that not many people realize is that some players are a…

  17. Thoughts on the Portal So Far *** This is going to be a really interesting week for a number of reasons. First and foremost, the final names entering the portal will pop up over the next 36 hours or so. We should see the final entrants announced by Tuesday night at the latest. Keep in mind players from Miami and Indiana will have a full five more days after tonight's National Title game to announce their plans to enter as well. For Texas the positions of need remain on the offensive line, and an edge rusher. Will there by a surprise pick up or two? I won't count that out. I don't think many forecasted the additions of OL Jonte Neman or LB Markus …

entering the portal, according to published reports. Despite loads of potential (literally and figuratively), Mitchell played sparingly in his two years in Austin. He was suspended for a couple of games earlier this year for refusing to go into a game. Yet Mitchell had seemingly turned a corner later in the year and had earned more playing time. But perhaps it was too little, too late. Mitchell now makes eight defensive tackles the Horns will be losing by the end of this season, four to graduation and four to the portal. Mitchell is one of the two portal possibilities that I had mentioned previously that could be somewhat detrimental to the roster…

  21. Blake Gideon is set to return to Austin as the Longhorns safeties coach in 2026. Gideon was the Longhorns’ safeties coach in 2024 and helped orchestrate a top ten defense with a hand over the backend of the defense. Georgia Tech hired Gideon as their defensive coordinator for the 2025 season, though after one year, Gideon returns to Austin. This time, he reunites with Will Muschamp, who he played for in 2008-2010. View full news story

  22. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas State offensive guard Tellek Lockette told OTF he “was supposed to” visit Texas today. But that visit is apparently off. Lockette gave no further reason. ** As we reported yesterday, we were told Texas does not have any of its existing roster expected to enter the portal this cycle. In other words, the roster bleeding has stopped. That means the Horns’ sole focus now is adding folks to the team. Texas clearly wants and needs another interior OL. Can they get one? That’s a good question. Texas has some hope that one shakes loose late in the process. If so, Texas will be very aggressive. ** Indiana just won a national champ…

  25. An early Flipmas gift! Bang, bang, choo-choo train! The Longhorns make a big splash in the 2026 cycle with a flip of 2026 Miami Northwestern (Fla.) DL James Johnson from Georgia to the Horns! Johnson originally chose the Bulldogs over the Longhorns on June 28, and just two weeks later, he makes a flip into the Longhorns' class to join the class of 2026. Texas became a significant player for Johnson as the spring progressed and there was buzz about a commitment following his official visit in June. As we have seen time and time again, Texas continues to stick on guys they want in the class and those efforts are already paying off with the flip of the f…
