Ross Dellenger of Yahoo! reported late last night that the four major conference are circulating a draft document to its members that would bind member institutions to new House Settlement rules surrounding NIL and render punishment absolute without legal recourse (i.e. a lawsuit). Summer Conditioning is Here *** The Texas Football team is all here in Austin, Texas. Sunday evening consisted of a time-wide meeting inside of Moncrief around 7:00 p.m. The meeting covered the schedule for summer conditioning, the expectations and an opportunity for the newest Longhorns to get acquainted with the members of the roster who have called Austin home for the last five months. Now it is time for Torre Becton and his staff to get back to leading the charge and continuing to advance this group forward from a conditioning standpoint. RUNNING BACK Texas has two commitments at the position from Richmond Randle’s Landen Williams-Callis and Chandler (Ariz.) Basha’s Noah Roberts and are done in 2027. Brandon Brown update OnTexasFootball caught up with 4-star defensive line commit Brandon Brown (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) a few minutes ago. Brown, 6-1.5 and 285 pounds, told OTF that Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker is scheduled to be by the school Monday afternoon for spring practice. This will be the first time Baker has watched Brown practice or play live. Brown also told OTF that he has replaced the Florida May 31-June 2 official visit with LSU. So the OV's are LSU, Tennessee June 7-9, Texas June 14-16 and USC June 21-23. Florida is fifth in the race.

Let’s start with some really good news. I am told that Texas has been very happy with the work of Jerrick Gibson at running back. Very happy. He has stepped up and is being more and more reliable in each practice and is working to understand pass protection at the college level more and more. At this stage, we expect Gibson to have a role on this team out of the gate. Now don’t get carried away. I’m not talking about starting or being the premier back. But his work as a strong, smart inside runner has been on display. For a team that needed someone to step up following the injury to Cedric Baxter, Gibson has answered the call to this point. …

According to Dr. Brett Wilkinson, the University of Texas has won its third Directors Cup in the last four years. Stanford needed to dramatically outscore the Longhorns in women’s track and field today to overtake Texas. But that did not occur. Texas athletics is headed by athletic director Chris Del Conte. Del Conte took the reins in Austin 2017. Under his stewardship the Longhorns have become the nation’s premier college athletic program. Caesar’s went ahead and put up a line two weeks ahead of time. In Vegas, the Longhorns are favored by 17.5 points over Florida. Florida plays arch-rival Georgia this weekend in Jacksonville. Texas softball goes for the national championship tomorrow at 7pm against Texas Tech on ESPN. The Longhorns defeated Tennessee 2-0 in the semifinal yesterday behind strong pitching performances from Mac Morgan and Teagan Kavan, a strong defense, and a big swing from Katie Stewart in the fourth inning. Tech held off an Oklahoma team 3-2 last night. The Sooners had tied it up in 7th on a two-out two-run homer before the Red Raiders walked it off later. Texas sits at 13 commitments. It’s not an overwhelming class as yet. But there are 15+ visitors coming to town this weekend and the Horns have the no. 1 quarterback in the country committed. ** Dia Bell, the Texas quarterback pledge from South Florida, won the Elite 11 QB competition this week over a host of other elite, nationally-ranked quarterbacks. Day One Impressions: - Michael Taaffe broke the team down to start practice. Last year, it was Quinn Ewers on day one and Barryn Sorrell on day two. - Last year, we would have graded the punting unit a D or so. With the new punter, Texas has a chance to get a A or A+. More distance, significantly more hang time. It is literally like the difference between daylight and dark. Texas now has a punter with an NFL caliber leg. - Josiah Sharma has a chance to be a special player at Texas. - Emaree Winston has a tremendous catch radius. - Jack Endries is well put together physically, but he is not physically imposing. Sources have told OTF that tight end Jordan Washington will more than likely be out the remainder of the spring due to an injury that happened last week in practice. There are rumors that Washington's injury will require surgery, but I am told that is false. Washington is expected to compete for the starting tight end job that is wide open at this point. The Longhorns are expected to pursue a tight end in the portal, but that plan has been in place since the end of the season, regardless of this setback.

The Combine is officially wrapped up and the next thing on the docket for the NFL Draft hopefuls is the Texas Pro Day on March 26. With that said, the final takeaways from the Combine are this: *** Quinn Ewers Draft Position A hot topic, as you would expect coming out of Indianapolis. Quinn Ewers certainly helped his stock by throwing at the Combine when several of the top arms in the Draft opted to sit on the sidelines and watch.
