  1. A look at potential individual matchups that will decide the overall matchup on Saturday between Texas and Ohio State in Columbus. *** Texas WR Ryan Wingo vs. Ohio State CB Davison Igbinosun A prime breakout candidate for the Texas Longhorns is second year wide receiver Ryan Wingo. And while folks in Austin understand the talent possessed by the St. Louis native is elite, the rest of the CFB world is waiting for Wingo to make the leap on a national scale. This is a great opportunity in a matchup that should allow for some vertical opportunities. Wingo in January hauled in just one reception on six targets for 16 yards. For those who saw my tweet earlie…

  2. One Thing I Learned About Every Player on Defense This Spring *** Similar to the post yesterday about the offensive players, I wanted to do the same about the guys on defense. As we all expect, this should be a unit that is very talented and with Will Muschamp at the helm, it could turn into one of the better units in the country given the pieces to be aggressive. *** Defensive Line Ian Geffrard – Absolutely massive human. While he won't be a sack master, he will be a challenge for centers one on one in pass protection. Will be a boulder in short distance run support as well. Hero Kanu – Will be a draft pick after the 2026 season, and now tha…

  3. Wanted to try a new article out for the conclusion of the spring season. One thing I know based off of the spring *** Quarterbacks Arch Manning – Texas' QB1 said he was "100%" and fully healthy during the final week of the spring. He will be a full go for the summer months. KJ Lacey – There remains plenty to learn from Lacey from a progression standpoint and making the correct reads, but AJ Milwee said it best: When Lacey is on the field, the ball just moves. Dia Bell – It was a promising spring for Bell, who mechanically is very sound. Had several visitors for practice mention he had the best day of practice amongst the QBs several times. …

  4. After Greedy James’ expected departure from the class, the Texas Longhorns now hold 21 commitments while retaining its top 5 class ranking. With only a few targets still left on the board, here’s one sentence on what I like about each Texas pledge. Smithson Valley QB Ty Knutson — Big, toolsy passer with power run ability that won a State Championship in his first year as a full-time starter and fits in well between Dia Bell and Neimann Lawrence. Chandler (Ariz.) Basha RB Noah Roberts — Terrific passcatcher as a rising senior RB with 99 career receptions and a career YPC that’s good for a first down (12.01). NOLA Brother Martin WR Easton Royal — Unreal …

  5. As Texas’ commits continue inching closer to their senior seasons, OTF provides one thing I’d like to see from each defensive Texas commit. Kasi Currie, DL, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon — Improved ball get-off as a senior. Currie is one of the most intriguing prospects in the nation as a two-way lineman that wins with power and athleticism, but he’s never the first one off the ball and needs to improve his BGO ability and reactiveness to the snap. Tyler Alexander, DL, Wellington (Fla.) Palm Beach Central — Alexander has a lot of impressive flashes or splash plays, but down to down consistency and the motor will need to improve. It’s easy to assume it will i…

  6. As Texas’ commits continue inching closer to their senior seasons, OTF provides one thing I’d like to see from each offensive Texas commit as seniors. Ty Knutson, QB, Smithson Valley — Knutson plays for one of the state’s top programs and is rarely tested in the regular season or the first few rounds of the playoff. That said, even though the competition will usually allow the Ranger to do mostly everything on time and at their pace, I’d like to see Knutson gain more experience in situations where the play breaks down and it’s on him to extend it. Whether that means using his legs to take off or getting creative in the pocket before hooking up with a receiver downfie…

  7. OnTexasFootball percentage: Kellen Wiley The Texas Longhorns are surging for Seffner (Fla.) Armwood senior riser linebacker Kellen Wiley. Wiley, 6-3.5 and 226-pounds, made an official visit to Texas for the Florida game. Initially the returns were favorable for the Longhorns. A week later, the Longhorns are trending in a very favorable way according to a source. That's the entire family of Wiley that is excited about Texas. It's more than just the football piece, but the plan for Wiley's development in football and a student at the University of Texas. The OnTexasFootball 4-star prospect remains scheduled to make an official visit to Miami November 2…

  8. Opinion and intel from the road: Who is leaning where Let's get Saturday started with the opinions, intel and the latest from my stops on the road this week, and intel from working the phones. 5-star Texas commit Easton Royal Still really like where Texas sits. Pretty much the entire Texas offensive staff will be by the school next Thursday. I would put Florida 2nd and LSU 3rd - currently. Ole Miss and Tennessee also get OV's. Texas has last OV June 19-21. 4-star++ EDGE Jabrrius Garror Believe this is Texas and Miami top 2 headed into Georgia OV this weekend. Auburn and Florida State will also get OV's. Texas A&M fading. 9. OTF spoke with Houston (Texas) Dekaney and OTF 4-star WR/ATH Tanook Hines a few minutes ago. Hines met with Steve Sarkisian, Chris Jackson and other Texas coaches over the weekend. Texas told Hines they are recruiting him as a wide receiver, but defensive back is a position he could get a look at. OTF believes Texas is in an ascending position headed into the Notre Dame OV next weekend. Baylor is also scheduled for June 21-23. Hines visited USC last weekend, and Arizona State in late April. Hines said he plans to announce a decision in July. View full news story

  10. Temple EDGE Jamarion Carlton to OV at Texas June 6–8 The Longhorns will receive an official visit from one of the state’s top defensive linemen in Temple DL Jamarion Carlton. Carlton will head to Austin to see the Longhorns the weekend of June 6–8, which was previously slotted for SMU. The move comes on the heels of LaAllen Clark visiting Temple twice in the last three weeks during spring practice. Texas ramped up the heat and are awarded with an official from Carlton. 11. Latest Word on OTF 4-Star++ Felix Ojo The latest on one of the state's top offensive linemen includes a busy summer of official visits and a continued push from Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood and the Texas Longhorns. I stopped by Mansfield Lake Ridge on Friday afternoon to get the latest on the 6-foot-7-inch and 290-pound offensive tackle prospect. *** Q: What is the excitement level for official visit season? Ojo: Really just being able to see each program and what they have to offer from a players' point of view. I really want to talk to the players and build a relationship with the players because you never know, depending on what squad I go to, t…

  12. OTF 4-star++ Samari Matthews announcement thread Four-star++ cornerback Samari Matthews (Cornelius, N.C./Hough) will announce his commitment at 7:30 pm tonight. The 6-0.5, 185-pounder will announce out of Texas and South Carolina, with Miami and FSU having hats on the table. OnTexasFootball has continued to hear more chatter on the Texas side this week, the same as late last week and over the weekend. Matthews was the first offer by cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey when hired at Texas. Matthews and family made an unofficial visit in April, prior to June official visit. View full news story

  13. Texas is set to host another massive five-star prospect this weekend for the final weekend of the June official visits. Grayson (Ga.) linebacker Tyler Atkinson will visit the Longhorns, first reported by Hayes Fawcett. The Longhorns and Atkinson had been flirting with a visit for basically the entire 2025 year, with plans yet to follow through. However, now, the Longhorns get the No. 1 linebacker in the country, per the composite rankings, on campus for a visit. *** Georgia is considered the leader coming into the visit. Clemson, Ohio State, Oregon and Texas remain in contention. View full news story

  23. OTF Community: If you could ask Coach Sark, Kiffin, Venables or Elko one question I'm throwing this out to the OTF community this morning. Want to know what's the one question you would ask each coach prior to the season. For instance, I got to ask Coach Sark a question at SEC Media Days. I asked about KJ Lacey and where he's at in his development, because we all know there will be a series or a few plays he's called upon this season. It's inevitable. I can't wait to her the questions lol View full news story

  24. OTF in Miami: Live update on 5-star DL James Johnson Miami, Fla. - OnTexasFootball spent two hours at Northwestern High today. OTF will have a YouTube video interview with James Johnson in the next couple of days. First bit of news is the 6-3, 280-pounder is scheduled to be back at Texas September 20 for the Sam Houston State game. The same weekend 5-star RB commit Derrek Cooper will make his official visit. Texas remains in a very good spot with Johnson. He gave the game day visit a “10”, and the same for his June OV. Johnson spent time talking with Kenny Baker and Steve Sarkisian last weekend. He also spent time with friend Myron Charles, as well as…

We'll have much more coming as we digest what we saw in the roughly 30-minute viewing window, but here's CJ, Hank, and Jeff's initial notes: CJ’s notes Offense: I focused specifically on the running backs and tight ends today, with a glimpse of the offensive line in between. – Hollywood Smothers was the first running back in drills, immediately followed by Raleek Brown. When working with the quarterbacks, Arch Manning was the quarterback handing the ball off and throwing the ball to either back. Ryan Niblett was RB3, and it is worth noting the next back up was fr…
