  5. SAN ANTONIO – Name a coach in the state of Texas and they are probably in San Antonio this week for the Texas High School Coaches Association convention. Name a coach coming off of a state championship and that list trims significantly. Yet, one of the hottest coaches in the country is beginning to build a monster of a program just outside of Fort Worth – Ray Gates, the head of North Crowley High School. I caught up with the state champion head coach to get his thoughts on 2026 Texas offensive line commit John Turntine III and current linebacker Jonathan Cunningham. The five-star offensive lineman committed to the Texas Longhorns on July 4th, adding t…

  6. I made the trek from Fort Worth to North Forney on Saturday evening to make it to Briceson Thrower’s commitment ceremony where he chose the Longhorns. After Texas’ latest commitment picked up the Burnt Orange hat and made it official, OnTexasFootball caught up with Thrower’s Wide Receivers coach, Offensive Coordinator, and Head Coach to hear their thoughts on the Longhorns’ newest commitment. North Forney’s coaching staff was hired in the offseason right before the 2024 season and shortly before Thrower’s family moved down to the metroplex from Junction City, Kansas ahead of Thrower's sophomore year. I’ve mentioned multiple times since yesterday that Texas is not done in the portal. Here’s one to keep an eye on. I will add this: he’s not the last one either. View full news story

  9. With Texas Pro Day set to commence on Tuesday, we'll see an additional batch of former Longhorns workout in front of scouts, coaches, and GMs on the Forty Acres this week. Seven former UT players tested in Indianapolis last month. They included: Trey Moore, DJ Campbell, Michael Taaffe, Jaylon Guilbeau, Anthony Hill Jr., Jack Endries, and Malik Muhammad. One notable omission was former Texas star Ethan Burke, who was not invited to the NFL Combine this year. But that doesn't mean the Westlake product won't have a long, successful NFL career, or be drafted in an early round for that matter. Here's a look at some notable NFL players who weren't invited to the NFL…

  10. A Look at Notable Visitors for Spring Ball This Week *** A lot going on across campus with the buzz for both basketball teams taking on their postseason runs, the Longhorns Pro Day kicking off on Tuesday, and baseball and softball continuing their top five starts to the season. Almost lost in the conversation of Texas athletics is the return from spring back and the resumption of spring ball. With that also means the Longhorns will get back to hosting top high school prospects as well. A few guys to know who are scheduled to visit this week: *** 2027 Class Brock Williams, TE, Libertyville (Ill.) High March 22nd visit One of the t…

  11. Here’s an updated look at the most notable flip targets the Texas Longhorns are after as we close in on official visit season. Jhadyn Nelson, 4-star LB, Houston (Texas) Langham Creek — Texas Tech commit Despite his commitment to the Red Raiders, Nelson is still listening to the Longhorns, including back-to-back weeks where the Texas staff traveled to Langham Creek for an in-person visit. The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder has an official visit locked in with the Longhorns for June 5-7. Brooklyn Maxey, 3-star ATH, Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day — Louisville commit He’s committed to Louisville as a receiver, Texas likes him as a safety. The 6-foot-2, 205-pound …

  12. Wanted to get a few notes on the board in regards to where prospects will be visiting this weekend. *** Additional Colorado State Visitors Texas will mostly be hosting area 2026 recruits and some committed members of the 2025 class. It is not expected to be a heavily-attended weekend on campus, after all it is a 2:30 kickoff, right in the dead heat of the afternoon and the marquee matchups later in the season at home provide better opportunities to impress. A few Central Texas 2026 prospects who have been invited to attend the game on Saturday: 2025 TE Eddie Robinson – Manor (TX) High ... offers from UMHB, Lamar, Austin Peay 2026 WR Brock…

  14. Note on 4-star++ Jalen Lott OnTexasFootball believes there is a shift in the recruitment of Jalen Lott (Frisco, Texas/Panther Creek) by the Texas staff. After Jalen Lott sat in on a wide receiver room meeting when on campus earlier in April, it became apparent the 5-foot-11.5, 170-pounder was very excited to be in the WR meeting with Chris Jackson and leaning toward wanting to play wide receiver. Lott is scheduled to speak with Steve Sarkisian today, and Sarkisian is expected to begin the recruitment as an offensive player first. OTF believes Texas and Oregon remain the top two for the Longhorns legacy. Jalen Lott OV's ... LSU May 30-June 2 …

  15. Note on Easton Royal: Texas fans will like it OnTexasFootball has learned that 5-star Texas wide receiver commitment Easton Royal (New Orleans/Brother Martin) was able to make a throwing workout with Arch Manning, Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, Hollywood Smothers and Sterling Berkhalter this week in New Orleans. Texas continues to be the heavy favorite to land Royal's signature. The 5-11, 205-pound Pelican State 100-meter record holder (10.17) has Florida as the top threat to the Longhorns in the recruitment, but Texas continues to feel very good. LSU, Ole Miss and Tennessee round out the five finalists. Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson, along with Jabba…

  16. Rumors began circulating on social media yesterday regarding a potential return to college for former Texas EDGE Ethan Burke following the NCAA's eligibility ruling affecting members of the 2022 recruiting class. On Texas Football has confirmed with a member of Burke's family that there are no plans for him to leave Baltimore Ravens training camp. As reported earlier this week, Burke is believed to be in the best shape of his football career, and his full focus remains on earning a spot on the Ravens' 53-man roster. While multiple schools reached out to Burke's representatives to gauge his interest in a return to college football, those inquiries were not p…

  17. Texas is definitely in play for the brother tandem Zachariah and Zion Branch, formerly of USC. Zachariah is a highly ranked wide receiver who is an absolute jet. Zion has been a reserve defensive back at safety for the Trojans to this point. We’ll see where this goes. But I am told Texas is a possibility as of this morning. View full news story

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas sports information released a note earlier today that six starters were having off-season surgery, including wide receiver Ryan Wingo, who dealt with an injured wrist from the Mississippi State game on. Despite the surgery, Wingo is NOT expected to miss spring ball. Trevor Goosby, Ty’Anthony Smith and Xavier Filsaime are expected to miss some or all of spring ball as each of them had shoulder surgeries. Arch Manning’s foot surgery is not expected to limit his availability for spring, according to the press release.

  19. Happy Saturday. Over the past week on the road, I wanted to recap some of the stops from the road all in one place. Will add a few nuggets I have picked up from the trail as well. *** OTF 5-Star OT John Turntine – Crowley (Texas) North Crowley HS Biggest Takeaway: Decision could come as soon as July 4th. The five-star tackle prospect is down to essentially four schools at the moment. Though my read on the situation is a Lone Star Showdown recruitment between Texas and Texas A&M. Turntine mentioned that both coaching staffs were coming after him the hardest in his recruitment and right now, that figures to be the case barring a major shift on …

  21. Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian on the podium to discuss the Texas 2024 Spring Game: *** Sark was pleased to have played 100+ snaps and see no significant injuries. Does not sound like TE Jordan Washington's knick was too significant. *** Steve Sarkisian says it was totally the plan for QB Quinn Ewers to only see two series. Adds it was the reason why both Ewers and Arch Manning were on the same team. Wanted Manning to go play extended snaps for the first time in quite a while. *** "Our EDGE pass rush is real." Texas is five days away from the first round of the College Football Playoff matchup at DKR vs. Clemson. *** Health Updates – QB Quinn Ewers looked good to go. 25. Notes from Orlando Some team notes I've picked up in the last 24 hours in Orlando. Don't sleep on Lacey ... I'm talking K.J. Lacey, not Kewan Lacey guys. 😂 In speaking with a source, to say redshirting freshman QB K.J. Lacey has impressed since being on campus would be an understatement. He's viewed as a quick study, along with having natural playmaking skills and a fearlessness about the way he attacks the game and position. Obviosly, he was well coached at Saraland High by Jeff Kelly. His feet and reactive quickness adapted quickly to the speed of the game when he arrived last spring, and that allowed him to advance quickly in terms of his performance.…
