The portal isn’t very fun right now, right? Until the imports start rolling in, that’s largely the mood across the Longhorn fanbase. As of this writing, Texas is up to 19 portal entrants and will likely hit 20 soon. That number itself isn’t surprising. I reported in mid-December that 20 would be the expected mark. The real question is how much higher it climbs. With several names still in balance, a total in the mid-20s is very much in play for the 2026 cycle. What is surprising is who has entered. Parker Livingstone, Liona Lefau, Tre Wisner, and most recently freshman linebacker Bo Barnes were not widely expected departures entering the portal window. A year ag…

The Texas Longhorns are in Brooklyn for the UKG Legends Classic with games today and Friday. The Longhorns will take on Syracuse in the opening round, and face either Texas Tech or St. Joe's Friday. Texas is coming off an 89-43 victory over Mississippi Valley State. Tre Johnson and Arthur Kaluma led the Longhorns in scoring with 18 points. Johnson is the leading scorer in the SEC so far this season, averaging 23.5 points per game, including connecting on 17 of 29 from the three-point line. The Longhorns could be with senior transfer guard Tramon Mark for the first time this season. Mark missed the first four games of the season with ankle sprain suffered prior…

Former Texas offensive lineman Cole Hutson has filed a lawsuit against the NCAA to become eligible in 2026. The lawsuit is similar to the ones that Texas basketball players Chendall Weaver and Jordan Pope have pursued, and in Weaver's case, already received an injunction. It relates to high school players in the class of 2022 gaining a fifth year of eligibility based on both the preceding and subsequent classes also receiving five full years of eligibility. If Hutson wins the case and/or receives the injunction, he will be available for fall camp for the Longhorns and be expected to compete for the starting left guard spot along with Laurence Seymore and Jaydon …

Texas will play in the UKG Legends Classic Championship Game tonight after holding off Syracuse 70-66 Thursday night. The Longhorns will take on Saint Joseph's (4-1), who beat Texas Tech 78-77. Both Texas and Saint Joseph's surrendered big leads in their games Thursday night, before winning late. Texas beat the Orange Thursday night without power forward Jayson Kent, one of the key contributors to the team. Even with the return of Tramon Mark, that meant the Longhorns have still not played at full strength this season. Texas was paced by senior forward Arthur Kaluma, who posted a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds. Tre Johnson added 16 points, d…

College Basketball Portal Thread: Roster decisions and top targets Sean Miller and staff had meetings with the current roster this week. OTF believes announcements/decisions will start to be announced in the coming days with the portal officially opening April 7. Texas has also spoken with many agents/representatives of potential targets. If there are any reports that come out about a specific player being a portal target, Texas is considering multiple prospects at every spot as the staff continues to navigate the best potential fits and making the 2026-27 roster work from an NIL standpoint. Texas needs ... Four-man that has versatility - Face up abilit…

Things could change as I’m literally typing this, but… These five players have not been announced by the schools they have committed to and all five have been recruited by Texas either all the way through or previously: - Richard Anderson - Trenton Henderson - Chris Henry - Jalen Lott - Lamar Brown To be clear, these things could end up being nothing at all. However, with both Steve Sarkisian and Brandon Harris saying the Longhorns aren’t done, there is definitely something going on behind the scenes.

SEC Hoops: Texas at 20 Arkansas Game Thread Texas (18-11, 9-7) is coming off a huge Quad 1 win at Texas A&M Saturday, and now heads into the final week of SEC regular season play needing one win to finish 10-8 in year one under Sean Miller. Tonight, the Longhorns will take the court in a very hostile environment against 20th ranked Arkansas (21-8, 11-5), led by terrific freshman Darius Acuff Jr. Texas will once again be without backup center Lassina Traore, who is out with knee soreness. OTF doesn't expect him to play again this season, barring a major change. The game When: 6 p.m. CT Where: Bud Walton Arena (Fayetteville, Ar.) TV: ESPN2 …

EDIT: At 2:39pm, Sprague announced he is returning to Michigan. Texas has been a stalking horse now for three different recruitments of players who entered the portal only to return to their original teams. ** This is a mid-day update. Still no word on offensive tackle Andrew Sprague. The Kansas City native is still debating between a move to Texas or returning to Michigan. Both sides are awaiting a decision. It was originally thought he would announce a decision this morning, so it could come at any time. View full news story

SEC Hoops: Texas vs. LSU Game Thread Texas (16-9, 7-5) has won four SEC games in a row, and are now off the NCAA Tournament bubble with the 85-68 win at Missouri Saturday. With a wounded LSU (14-11, 2-10) team in Austin tonight, that means the Longhorns have to continue to take care of business and not stub a toe that could end up costing the costing big come the second weekend in March. There is plenty at stake tonight for Texas, clearly. A win would get the Longhorns to eight SEC wins with five games remaining, making nine wins in conference a near lock barring the unforeseen. A win tonight would also begin to open up real talk possibilities of winning 10 SEC…

I was surprised by a lot of things on Saturday afternoon in Gainesville. But I was downright shocked by one: the poor play of the Texas defense. From the very beginning, the interior of the Texas front couldn’t get off blocks. They were whipped time and time again. Florida running backs were allowed to dance in the holes before any Texas defender made contact. And the edges lost contain multiple times. The Gators were in more 2nd and 4s, 5s or 6s, than any of us care to count. Florida controlled the line of scrimmage. That was the story of this game. The second level of the Texas defense didn’t acquit themselves any better. To start, Tex…

Ask me anything Can't imagine what the topics will be haha Some things I have had on my mind ... Will Texas sign a top 5 class if the seasons ends up 8-4 or 7-5? How many points does Texas need to score to win the remaining games? At Mississippi State - 24'ish Vanderbilt - 24-27 at Georgia - 28'ish Arkansas - 24'ish Texas A&M - 28'ish Duke should beat Texas in Sean Miller's first game at Texas, but will this Texas team exceed the national expectations? I firmly believe Texas hired a terrific basketball coach that will build really strong and balanced rosters in the future. This season is all about Miller and staff ge…

Texas vs. Lafayette Game Thread: Here for the negativity in year one; game two I'm thinking about having a theme for every game thread this season. Let's try this out today. The game... The offensive line The question on many Texas fans mind is how will the portal cycle finish up in terms of likely adding one more impact guard to the 2026 offensive line. While Longhorn nation waits on that to be decided, OnTexasFootball takes a look at where things currently stand on January 19, 2026. The starting line and second team ... LT Trevor Goosby, Redshirt Junior - out for spring after minor shoulder procedure. 15 tackle starts, and 30 games played. The backup: Jordan Coleman, Redshirt Freshman - Texas really likes him as a player. Not a lock he's LT long term. Jaydon Chatman, Redshirt Junior - has worked at numerous positions since arrivi…

Colorado offensive tackle Jordan Seaton announced his intent to enter into the transfer portal about an hour ago. Seaton is not officially in the portal yet, so Texas, nor any other team, can have direct contact with him until then. Colorado has 2 business days before it must enter him into the portal. We’ve said all along Texas is going big game hunting in the portal this off-season. Seaton, an expected first rounder next year, is certainly that. National reports suggest that Texas and Oregon are expected to be primary competitors. Miami, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, and LSU are expected to also throw their hat in the ring. Hook’Em! View full news s…

Today, Jan. 23, is the last day for the SEC and Big 10 commissioners to come to an agreement on the future of the college football playoff. The SEC wants an expansion to 16 teams. The Big 10 prefers an expansion to 24. Both parties must agree on any changes to the existing agreement. The SEC is said to be unwilling to go to 24. Without that guarantee, the Big 10 is likely to block a slightly expansionary move to 16 (or even 14). If there is an impasse, SEC commissioner Greg Sankey seems ok with keeping the current 12-teams format intact. ** But who really cares about the playoff format? Any change to it is like putting lipstick on a pig.…
