Momentum continues! Texas adds five more stars to its 2025 recruiting class with the huge addition of WR Jaime Ffrench out of Mandarin, Florida. The Longhorns come away victoriously and hold onto what had been a solid lead dating back to the summer official visit period. Ffrench left Austin following his OV and immediately sources told OTF that the Longhorns were going to be the team to beat in this recruitment and sure enough, Sarkisian and Chris Jackson pull it off for another OOS five-star. MVPs from the Official Visit Month *** Three major official visit weekends are in the books for the Texas Longhorn recruiting staff. First, a hat tip to Taylor Searels, Kyndal Perry and the recruiting staff from behind the scenes. Women's Sweet 16: 1 seed Texas vs. 5 seed Kentucky Game Thread The No. 1 seed Texas women (33-3) take on No. 5 seed Kentucky (25-10) today at 2pm in Fort Worth in the Sweet 16 of Regional 3. The Longhorns advanced to the Sweet 16 with wins over 16 seed Missouri State 87-45 and 8 seed Oregon 100-58, with Madison Booker scoring 40 in the win over the Ducks. The Wildcats advanced to Fort Worth with wins over 12 seed James Madison 71-56 and 4 seed West Virginia 74-73. Texas and Kentucky have met once before this season in SEC play. Both basketball teams advanced to the Sweet 16 this weekend. It’s the first time in three seasons that both the men and women advanced to the round simultaneously. For the men, it’s the 15th time in program history the Horns have made it this far in the NCAA tourney. The men are clearly peaking at the right time. They’re turning the ball over considerably less than they did in the regular season and defensive metrics are significantly better as well. Observations through two days. Quarterback - Arch Manning is the clear alpha. Not by position but for the entire offense. Texas goes as he goes. Manning was the first to break-down the team to begin practice, continues to lead the pace going from drill to drill, and more. He is leading by example. In drills, Manning hasn’t been perfect in open-viewing sessions. But there is zero question who is attempting to lead this team and the intensity behind it. OnTexasFootball can confirm RB CJ Baxter is expected to miss the majority of the 2024 season due to torn ligaments in his knee suffered during the first padded practice of fall camp, Anwar Richardson was the first to report. The injury suffered at practice "did not look good" sources told OTF and he was quickly carted off the practice field. It wasn't pretty, and it was the first game in a while Texas struggled down the stretch making key free throws (Texas had shot 82.5% from the foul line the last nine games). Texas at Duke (75-60) thoughts: Morning after If one is doom and gloom or looking for a bunch of negativity, this isn't the post for you. Want to get that out of the way. I'm more excited about the potential of this season after the Duke game, than before. Texas has a legit coach, very good concepts in the half court on offense, a team with enough size to compete in the SEC and some players on the perimeter that will look different against future opponents. The first scrimmage of fall camp gets going here in the next couple of hours. Scrimmages last roughly two hours. Under Sark, the team typically starts with special teams (punts and kickoffs) when they’re inside DKR like they will be this morning. Then they typically go 1s vs 2s to start things off before moving to 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s, each in multiple eight-play spurts. After that, it’s time for 1s vs 1s and 2s vs 2s. As part of that session, they focus on situational pieces, including red zone before closing with kicking. Again, that’s the “typical” order of operations for a Sark-led training camp scrimmage. It’s encouraging that wide receiver Parker Livingstone appears to be taking another step forward during training camp, but, at the same time, we’ve heard very little about Stanford transfer Emmett Mosley V outside of the first few days. Why? According to CJ Vogel, Mosley has not been fully participating in Texas’ practice for a while. We knew he was held out of the first scrimmage but this injury has gone far beyond that.
