OTF takes a stab at identifying the top target — not currently committed to Texas — at each position for the Longhorns as things stand on Monday, March 23. Today we’ll take a subjective look at offense. Quarterback N/A Ty Knutson is already committed, therefore the Longhorns are not pursuing additional quarterbacks at this time in the class of 2027. Running back Lathan Whisenton, RB, Waco (Texas) Midway or Landen Williams-Callis, RB, Richmond (Texas) Randle 1A and 1B if you ask us. The Longhorns are going to sign at least two running backs in the class of 2027 and these two could very well be the guys. Whisenton is trending to Te…

If I could complete the 2025 class Every remaining game is a huge game on the field for the No. 5 ranked Texas Longhorns with one more loss in the margin for error to make the CFP. But that is also the case in recruiting to keep the ascending momentum working to close out a fourth straight top 5 class. OnTexasFootball begins your Saturday with the class if I could complete it: This class with 29 signees would end up ranked No. 3 more than likely, with shot at No. 2 Quarterback (1) K.J. Lacey, QB, Saraland (Ala.) High #AllGasNoBrakes OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star Running back (2) James Simon, RB, Shreveport (La.) Calvary Baptist #AllG…

If I could sign five in 2027 Was thinking on morning walk about recruiting and the June official visits quickly approaching. My prevailing thought became what are the five prospects I would want to sign most in the Texas 2027 class that are currently not committed to Texas. 1. John Meredith, CB, North Crowley (Texas) High The first one was simple, 5-star cornerback John Meredith III. That was a very self-explanatory. So I'm going to list the four that followed in my thought process. 2. JaBarrius Garror, EDGE/LB, Prichard (Al.) Vigor The reason is simple. Pass rushers, pass rushers and more pass rushers. His 40+ career sacks speak for itself. And h…

Texas vs. Arkansas … at DKR Austin, Texas November 22, 2025 **** Texas is back at home to face off with Arkansas in a game certainly classifies as a must-win for the 2025 season, but beyond that, it is a must-win for the program. Which Texas will show up? We will see! 1st Quarter First possession of the game will belong to Taylen Green and the Arkansas Razorbacks. We are off and running! Speaking of off and running, the absence of Anthony Hill Jr. is felt immediately. Arkansas’ first play of the game is a 41 yard run right up the gut. Kade Phillips starting today. Texas holds Arkansas to 3 points after the explos…

For the final time in 2025, Texas will take the field. 1st Quarter The Texas offense begins the contest with the ball at the 25. That was one of the fastest paces Texas has shown all season and it results in a field goal. Sark wants this to turn into a track meet it appears. Arch made a heck of a throw on the first 3rd down, but misses a curl route in the red area and Texas settles for a field goal. Christian Clark's first rush attempt went for 22 yards which was a beauty of a sight! This is basically a brand new defense. Let’s see what we get. Michigan had success throwing the football on the opening drive. Then stubbed their to…

GAINESVILLE, Florida – SEC play is officially underway for the Texas Longhorns. Texas *** 1st Quarter Texas won the toss and will kickoff to begin this contest. Will Stone is back on kickoff duties. I really hope this is not how the game goes, a forced fumble on the first play of the game ends up fumbled but goes right back into the lap of Dallas Wilson. Florida’s first rush attempt goes for nine yards as well. Florida has really dragged this Texas defense around the field. Really ugly start for the Texas defense who allows an opening drive touchdown on 13 plays and over 7-minutes of gametime. Time for Arch Manning. First throw of the da…

1st Quarter: That is a fantastic start for the Texas defense. A quick three and out which began by a tackle for loss for Anthony Hill Jr. Let’s see what the Texas offense can do to capitalize. How about this start! 2 plays, 63 yards, 7 points. The offense goes back to the well for a simple swing screen which goes for 60 and the Longhorns immediately are on the goal line. Feel like plays like those have been completely missing and not utilized enough. Two straight three & outs for the Texas defense. That’s fantastic. No luck offensively. So far, the Texas run defense has been stout. The outside zone game has not worked for Miss State so …

Can you believe it is already the final week of the season? Pretty wild. But anyways – It’s time! Texas and Texas A&M square off in Austin for the first time in 15 years. The Longhorns are looking to keep Playoff hopes alive while ruining the Aggies’ perfect season. *** 1st Quarter Sarkisian has been setting up the Wingo screen pass for a month+. I can’t believe he actually tried it. What a snag by Mosley to move the chains and drive alive. Texas is living in third and long, which is not ideal start. And yep, pressure gets home from A&M, forces an errant throw. Texas will punt. Booooouwmeeester! A&M punts on their first dri…

For the first time in 42 days, the Texas Longhorns are playing football in Austin, Texas. I, for one, love it. 1st Quarter Arch Manning is on the field for the Horns to start the contest. WOW. Ryan Wingo takes the swing screen and goes 75-yards to the crib! It’s the exact same play Texas gained 60 yards on vs. Mississippi State a week ago on its first play of the game. Now, it goes the distance. What a start. Goodness! This game could not start any better for Texas. Colin Simmons gets straight to Pavia and forces a fumble. Longhorns are back in business on the Vandy 27. What a play for the star edge rusher. Some trickery for the Longhorns e…

*** DALLAS, Texas – The best weekend of the year is here! Texas. Oklahoma. In Dallas, Texas. Let’s get to it. 1st Quarter Texas has won the toss and elected to defer. Let’s see what type of physicality and energy this team begins with them. John Mateer is the starting quarterback for the Sooners, and he instantly rips a seam ball on third down. Lance Jackson gets some immediate pressure on a third down and 4 to force a field goal. That was a welcomed sight. It looks like Texas will be playing against themselves on Saturday. Already a false start and a holding call on the first three plays of the game from the offensive line. You will n…

Texas won a football game this evening, but it didn't feel like it. And for the next week or so, it probably won't be viewed as such a win inside the facility or on the plane ride home. It was an abysmal evening for the Longhorn offense. Abysmal. The worst in the Sarkisian era, and the worst in probably over a decade. Kentucky doubled up Texas in the following: Time of Possession: 39:23 to 20:37 Total yards: 395 to 179 First Downs: 8 to 24 Yards per rush: 3.0 to 1.7 It was ugly in every single facet. But there was a win. I saw a tweet from Brooks Austin, The Film Guy, introducing Texas fans to an SEC rite of passage by …

It is championship time in Atlanta, Georgia! Texas and Georgia are kicking off at Mercedes Benz Stadium for some hardware and a bye in the College Football Playoff. Texas gets the rock first and will take the field without star LT Kelvin Banks. *** 1st Quarter That was an underwhelming kickoff return by Matthew Golden. Texas starts at their own 11-yard line. Another series where Texas gets to a 2nd and short and loses five-yards. Wacky play, fortunate to keep possession on that one. Scratch that – incomplete after review. Back to back beauties from DeAndre Moore and Matthew Golden to get the ball over midfield. There’s the absence…

Finally, after all the way and talking, it is here. It is Cotton Bowl time! Texas and Ohio State for a spot in the National Championship. *** 1st Quarter *** Texas will start with the football after Ohio State won the toss and deferred. Ball at the 25 to start. What a freakish one-handed snag by Matthew Golden on 3rd down for a big game. That was huge to move the chains for the Longhorns. Lots of 12 personnel so far for Texas – 4 of the first 5 plays. It is a turnover on downs for the Longhorns on the opening possession. Texas did well to at least move the rock, but that is a drive that would have been huge to get points on early. I really…

We have finally made it. The College Football Playoff quarterfinals have arrived. Texas and Arizona State face off for a chance to move onto the Cotton Bowl in Arlington, Texas and a spot in the college football final four. Texas will kickoff to begin the game. Let’s see what Sakttebo and Leavitt have early on! *** 1st Quarter Arizona State gets a first down on the first play of the game from Cam Skattebo, but that is about it on the first drive. Texas forces a punt after four plays. Well, it should be Texas Football, but Mo Blackwell somehow doesn’t block the punt and instead runs into the punter for an ASU first down. What in the world is going …

I was perhaps skeptical of the turnout for this game with the holiday and the students on break, plus Westlake and Vandegrift in the Texas HS State Championship in Dallas. But it is absolutely packed at DKR. Stadium is as raucous and excited as I have seen for a game this year with Georgia being maybe the lone exception. *** 1st Quarter Clemson will receive the opening kickoff. Lefau and Hill to start the game. Clemson starts out with six consecutive drop backs to open the game and has relative success in doing so. Slants and rollouts, nothing that has provided the Texas pass rush an opportunity to get after Klubnik. This has been an im…

It’s the best weekend of the year. Texas–Oklahoma. It’s go time! *** First Quarter Texas won the toss and took the football. Sarkisian wants a chance to avenge the start from 2023 and we get to see Quinn Ewers immediately on the field for Texas. *** Ewers doesn't get the look he wants on the first down and takes a sack. Third and long against an OU defense is now where you want to be. Ewers misses a wide open wide receiver and Billy Bowman Jr. comes away with the INT. Just the exact same start from a year ago, the recipe for losing this game. The turnover does not result in points for OU after what appeared to be just a dud of a …

It is a beautiful day in Fayetteville, Arkansas for some football. About 65º at kickoff, a slight breeze and the first real taste of fall football for the Texas Longhorns this season. No Morice Blackwell Jr. for the Longhorns this morning, he is out with a hamstring injury. 1st Quarter Texas will get the football to begin the game. Let’s see what kind of Ewers and offense we get to start. Wooo, Ewers’ first pass gets deflected but finds Bond for a quick completion. The first offensive drive stalls around the 45-yard line. Texas got a first down but nothing else. Arkansas got home on third and long for a sack. No points for Texas on the op…

Texas is back after the bye week and is expected to face off with Florida who is down to 3rd string quarterback and Yale transfer, Aidan Warner this morning. Things should go in the favor of the Longhorns, but until you see it put together for 60:00, the questions will remain. *** 1st Quarter Texas will get the ball to begin the game. Let’s see something here, Quinn! Quinn Ewers looked sharp to begin the game. Three straight completions to begin the game and the Longhorns are cruising to midfield. Ewers looks good early on. He goes 5/5 in the first possession for 53 yards, yet the Longhorns end up with no points after a disastrous final three…

The biggest game of the season is here, The wait is over. Texas and Georgia at DKR. A top-5 matchup with all of the implications for a SEC Championship Game on the line tonight for Georgia and an opportunity for Texas to cement themselves as the undisputed No. 1 team in the country. Buckle up, it should be a fun one. – First off, that was one of the coolest flyovers I have ever seen. *** First Quarter Texas kicks off to start the ballgame. Georgia comes out throwing on all three downs, only gains five yards on one completion. This place is ROCKING. Texas wants to throw, throw, throw. Quinn starts three of three passing the rock. …

At the end of the day, a win is a win. *** Texas and Kentucky will kickoff and begin the seventh SEC matchup of the season. Interesting start for the Longhorns, who lose a yard on the first two snaps, but that’s a great throw, in rhythm for Ewers on third down to move the chains. Texas finding something on this first drive. Run game has been good enough to start and Ewers is 4/4 passing to begin the contest. Really good start for the Longhorns. Really, really good start for the Texas offense and especially for Quinn Ewers who goes 6-7 passing for 58 yards and a touchdown on the opening drive. Texas needed to start strong in this game and they did …

Initial Pregame Takeaway It is a bit breezy here in Ann Arbor. I don’t suspect it to be too much of an issue, but you never know when a strong gust will pick up and impact a ball in the air. Leaving for Michigan Stadium this morning, it was very cold. At kickoff today, it is as good of football weather as you will see, right around 60º. The atmosphere, the stadium, the pomp, the pageantry. It is all there and thus far it is living up to the top ten matchup hype. The build up has been tremendous. *** Texas won the toss and will receive. Sarkisian wants the ball and the opportunity to get a lead first on Michigan. I love the decision. Control the narrati…

How about a flyover for the ULM game! Back to back weeks of Texas going all out for its home environment. 1st Quarter Texas will receive to begin the football game. Won’t have to wait long to see Arch Manning get started in his first career start. Not the cleanest start to this first drive. A holding penalty by DJ Campbell pushes the drive back. Arch throws a pick to start the game. I hope you can say this will be the lone blemish on the tally by the end of the game, but that clearly remains to be seen. At this moment, you can certainly chalk this up to some pressure getting to him and decisions coming quicker than expected. Anthony Hill Jr! Huge…

is a scorching hot afternoon – I miss the Michigan weather – yet the Texas faithful have done a tremendous job of filling the stadium and being active around Bevo Blvd leading up to the evening. Texas had a flyover for UTSA, even after sending $1.6M south on i35 to UTSA to agree to this game. Not too bad when the money bags are infinite. Jahdae Barron, Jaylon Guilbeau, David Gbenda. Captains: Gunnar Helm, Jake Majors, Vernon Broughton and Trey Moore. 1st Quarter: Defense is coming out on the field to begin the football game. It’s go time. No changes to the starting eleven for the Texas defense. I like the start for the Texas defense.…

The season opener took place at DKR in front of 99,171 spectators where the Longhorns put on an absolute clinic defensively and the offense found a scorching hot rhythm as the game progressed. ---- Pregame – It is much cooler than I expected about a week ago. My weather app says 94º is the high, though it is about 88º at the time of kickoff. Much cooler and plays to the advantage of CSU just a bit. Overall, it should not be that large of an impact, but worth noting regardless. – Credit to the student section as well, they filled up immediately after gates opened. The kids are excited for some Texas Football, something that has been a constant under Sar…

Three weeks, three home games. Another game as the No. 1 team in the country and the beginning of a new era – SEC play is here! *** First Quarter Mississippi State is having success running the football so far, especially in the quarterback run game where the lead with the running back. Looks a bit like a service academy offense in an SEC jersey. Only two true drop backs from Miss State on the opening possession, one resulted in a QB run and the other was the QB getting blasted by Ethan Burke for an incompletion. First drop back from Arch Manning was a great pocket from the OL. A strong strike to Matthew Golden on a play where Manning’s eye…
