Damonic Williams Tuesday Morning Update TCU transfer defensive tackle Damonic Williams arrived in Baton Rouge for his LSU visit Monday evening. He will remain on campus today before heading back to Fort Worth tonight or early Wednesday morning. OnTexasFootball believes Oklahoma, Texas and LSU are all very much in the picture. Oklahoma and LSU have an inviting depth chart if Williams chooses to be a heavy snap player in what he hopes will be his final year in college. This will be closer to 1,000+ to meet and visit with all 16 SEC coaches and 48 different players. It’s also a chance to speak with the conference commissioner, rules officials and more. What happened over the weekend? Well, Sark told us that true freshman Jermaine Bishop worked at corner the entire summer. And he compared Bishop to his previous experiences with three first-round picks - John Ross of Washington, Devonta Smith of Alabama and Adoree Jackson of USC. Sark said he'll push Bishop back over to offense at the start of fall camp. But the mere fact that he thinks so much of the true freshman that he is even attempting to try him at both spots should be a telling sign to all. Bishop isn't your typical freshman. Texas Recruiting: Summer and fall targets The Texas Longhorns No. 15 ranked recruiting class has 15 commitments with the month of July winging down quickly. Steve Sarkisian and staff have nine prospects scheduled or likely to announce before the end of the summer. The official end of summer is September 22. A big time win for the 2026 class – DB Zelus Hicks has committed to Texas! The Longhorns earn its second verbal commitment since the win in Ann Arbor a week ago and now sit with three prospects in the 2026 class as Hicks joins QB Dia Bell and WR Chris Stewart. Hicks is a five-star prospect per the 247Sports Composite rankings, and sits as a top 30 national player in three of the four major ranking services. The Longhorns were able to get Hicks on campus for a visit in the spring and doubled up with a terrific visit for the June 1 Elite Camp as well. Spoke to a few sources across multiple sports this morning and got a lot of good news across all fronts. Baseball: Texas swept a Top 5 Georgia squad over the weekend, without both Adrian Rodriguez and Max Belyeu. I checked on the status of those two earlier and was told that both are recovering well. Rodriguez is "structurally fine" but the staff does not want to rush his return. "It's solely when he feels better... but we need it to not hurt," said a source. Well, Texas took another three star recruit on Friday. Austin Anderson defensive back Yaheim Riley is not among the top 100 players in the country by any service. Even more, he’s not even ranked among the top 100 players in the state by at least one. So what in the world are Steve Sarkisian and Brandon Harris thinking? 2026 RB Jett Walker Flips to Texas *** Texas is on the board with a commitment from 2026 Georgetown RB Jett Walker. Walker was on campus for an official visit over the weekend, and the news of his commitment comes shortly after returning home to Georgetown. The 6-foot-2 running back comes in around 210 pounds, and a very lengthy highlight tape. Walker averaged 10.3 yards per carry as a junior and has been a do it all back once again in 2025. Texas Recruiting Board (Feb. 19) The Texas staff is preparing for spring practice this month, while also setting up March and April unofficial visits along with locking in official visits. With more than 30 new offers made in January and a few more in February, the 2027 recruiting board is beginning to come into focus. This morning, we list the names that OTF believes are currently the key names on the recruiting board. This list is made with the understanding that the list will change over the next 2-3 months. Texas continues to use the portal smartly. Last night, former UNC defensive lineman Travis Shaw announced his pledge to Texas. Shaw, who is 6-foot-5, 335 pounds, has played three seasons for the Tar Heels, logging 300+ snaps this season, his best campaign yet in Chapel Hill. The former five-star prospect will fill a key hole for Texas next year, and that’s playing over the nose of the ball, similar to fellow portal transfer Cole Brevard from Purdue. Our Bobby Burton did a great job of adding some light to the running back room earlier this morning here on OTF. As it did for Bobby, Steve Sarkisian's comments caught my attention in regards to additional reshuffling of some bodies to the running back room prior to the start of the season. A freshman check-in: Derrek Cooper and Jermaine Bishop have been very early revelations on offense for Texas. Both offer the Texas offense something it otherwise lacks. Cooper has size and speed, and perhaps more shiftiness than people realize. That shiftiness and outright speed were the two things pointed out to me when I asked how Cooper compares to Cedric Baxter when he was a healthy freshman. Cooper simply has more speed and more shiftiness while also being similarly sized. Cooper has also shown excellent hands out of the backfield and a willingness to mix it up physically. Recruiting: Monshun Sales; decisions on deck OnTexasFootball broke the news that 5-star wide receiver Monshun Sales is scheduled to be in Austin today and Thursday. The news of the visits is also very interesting because the circle of Sales reached out to Texas and informed the staff of Monshun having serious interest prior to the recruitment beginning. With the 6-5, 205-pounder with 4.37 speed arriving in Austin today, that adds another top national prospect seriously considering the Longhorns. Sales has one official visit date open, June 5-7.
