However, On Texas Football is reporting that Kanu is returning to Texas for the 2026 season. A freshman check-in: Derrek Cooper and Jermaine Bishop have been very early revelations on offense for Texas. Both offer the Texas offense something it otherwise lacks. Cooper has size and speed, and perhaps more shiftiness than people realize. That shiftiness and outright speed were the two things pointed out to me when I asked how Cooper compares to Cedric Baxter when he was a healthy freshman. I listened to Mike Elko and Marcel Reed today. And I talked at length with Billy Liucci. On paper, I think the Aggie schedule is conducive to a 9- or 10-win season. It’s about as easy as you’ll find in the SEC. Do the Aggies have the horses to pull it off? They’ll be good enough on defense. Cleveland becomes the third defensive lineman to commit to the Longhorns in the 2026 cycle, joining Corey Wells and Dylan Berymon – all three of which are out of state and from SEC territory. True freshman defensive back Jonah Williams, who took the Texas baseball team by storm this spring, has returned to “full” practice for football. He had been nursing a hamstring injury for months that sidelined him from practice sessions. His regular season game debut may come as soon as this week or at some point over the next two games so long as there are no physical setbacks. Williams is a very gifted athlete.
