The 6-foot-4.5, 225-pound athletic pass catcher will announce out of Texas, Georgia and Ohio State with the Longhorns having been considered the leader for weeks. Georgia was considered the favorite for much of the football season before Texas became the favorite. The fickle nature of the portal was on full display in Norman, Oklahoma, over the weekend. Late Friday, one of the Sooners’ more promising young players, defensive lineman David Stone, officially entered the transfer portal. The former five star showed up in Norman just a year ago with lots of expectations and a hefty NIL price tag. To leave so soon would be a slap in the face to Sooner nation. The issue? The Sooners didn’t pay Stone the NIL he thought he deserved, so he immediately entered the portal. Derrek Cooper Update OnTexasFootball spoke to a source close to the recruitment of 5-star running back Derrek Cooper (Hollywood, fla./Chaminade-Madonna) within the last hour. The word from the locked in source is that the Texas visit was an absolute home run for Steve Sarkisian and Chad Scott. Word is Cooper was very impressed with the Texas program in every way. Unfortunately, the discussion mostly devolved into one about the future of the college football playoff, which Sankey and Big Ten commissioner Tony Petitti hold the keys to beginning in 2026. Given that so much occurred yesterday, I think a solid recap by position is in order. But first the injury updates. Both Cole Brevard and Nick Brooks went down with injuries during the scrimmage. Brevard later returned to the scrimmage. Brooks did not. But was later seen without any ice, crutches, etc., while walking with a slight limp. Tight end Emaree Winston did not participate in the scrimmage. He injured his shoulder earlier in the week and is expected out for a couple of months. Rather than labeling Arch Manning, Michael Taaffe and Cole Hutson as “doubtful” or “out”, Sark chose to go the same route with all of them - “questionable”. The designation leaves all of us guessing. That didn't take long! Texas has earned a commitment from San Jose State portal CB Jay'Vion Cole. Cole was on campus this weekend for an official visit and quickly made enough of an impact to earn his commitment. Cole was scheduled to visit Auburn next week, though the staff did enough to get him to shut things down this weekend and now the Longhorns have found an answer for the departures of Terrance Brooks and Austin Jordan. The 5-foot-11 cornerback spent 2023 at San Jose State where he recorded three interceptions. In 2022, Cole was at Cal Poly where he picked off four passes.
