Friday team notes OnTexasFootball brings team notes to begin Friday. Jordan Coleman OTF has mentioned that it's a possibility redshirt freshman left tackle Jordan Coleman may get some reps at left guard. Coleman took a few reps outside during the media window at left guard in drills. It's going beyond that, however. I was informed that Coleman got live 11 on 11 reps at left guard when practice moved to the indoor on day one. He's clearly being cross trained, but the staff also wants to take a look at him at the position as part of the competition on some level. But yesterday Jermayne Lole, a defensive tackle originally from Long Beach Poly by way of both Arizona State and Louisville, officially pledged to the Longhorns. He visited the Horns over the weekend. But that visit went unreported by media. Lole is 6-foot-3, 310 pounds. He was highly productive his freshman and sophomore seasons at ASU. Then he was beset by injuries over the next two seasons before actually playing 300+ snaps a year ago at Louisville. So how does Lole fit with the Horns? He's yet another experienced guy…

Just a few team notes from this week: * New cornerbacks Jay'Vion Cole and Santana Wilson have both been working primarily on install this week. They both needed to get the calls down, understand the nuances of Texas' defense, etc. Over the next few weeks, they'll go more and more in depth with that with coaches. Cole's combo of quickness and athleticism has been impressive so far in workouts. * Colton Vasek was recently described by one source as one of the most pleasant surprises of the spring. More thoughts: Defensive Interior - This group is as deep as any position on campus. Future NFL players abound. But are there are any true playmakers and/or disruptors? Ian Geffrard looks like a great take out of the portal and can play loads of snaps over the ball. Maraad Watson has re-shaped his body. Hero Kanu continues his ascent and has made himself into a future Sunday player. Same with Alex January. Justus Terry is the wildcard. At least twice on Thursday, Texas and at least one other college program were contacted by Damonic Williams' agent asking for "more". Yes, that's a tried and true negotiating tactic. I don't blame an agent for trying, nor should you. The response? Texas did not budge. So Williams announced for OU last night. ** That is portal recruiting for some in this day and age. With the decision yesterday of the NCAA and its member institutions to move forward with a settlement in the House vs The NCAA case, one that will financially reward former and future college athletes, the NCAA is moving into a new era. It will be pay for play. It's a frontier that should have been breached more than 30 years ago when the NCAA, despite its rising value in television advertising and sponsorship, clung to the illusion of "student-athletes" and amateurism by its fingertips. I texted with a friend who covers the state of Georgia recruiting and asked him about Justus Terry. Here’s his response: “A true game wrecker guy that you can win 1 on 1 with up front. He has a huge motor. As crazy as it sounds, I think he has a lot left in his ceiling. This is not a kid that comes from a powerhouse school where he has been shoving protein shakes in him since the seventh grade. I really like the comparison of Devonte Wyatt from Georgia, who was a first round draft pick a couple years ago to Green Bay at DT.”

Updates from Summer Conditioning *** – The team is working out four days a week with Wednesdays proving to be a lighter day off of the field from the traditional conditioning days. Majority of days are held inside of DKR for the team to work conditioning with Torre Becton and his staff. FSU commit to officially visit Texas November 1 The Texas Longhorns offered Florida State linebacker commitment Karon Maycock (Miami, Fla./Central) Thursday night. And an official visit has already been set. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker told OnTexasFootball that he has scheduled his OV to Texas for next weekend. That means Steve Sarkisian and staff will host at least one official visitor November 1-2 for the Vanderbilt game. Maycock committed to Florida State in February of 2025.
