Some more notes I’ve picked up over the weekend: 1. Just nine practices in, and Bo Mascoe is already considered a lynchpin of the secondary. He’s been that good and that consistent. He is currently CB No. 1 with the clear versatility to play NB if Will Muschamp and Blake Gideon opt for that route. 2. I was told Derrek Cooper is the one freshman who everybody knows will play in 2026. There will be other freshmen join him for sure. But he’s the one where it is already extremely evident. 3. Texas hosted Miami (Fla.) Coral Gables defensive lineman Stive-Bentley Keumajou Yondui this weekend for an unofficial visit. It was a makeup trip for the talented 6-foot-2.5, 295-pounder after his flight got cancelled earlier this month. The Longhorns offered Keumajou Yondui earlier this year and have quickly impressed. Originally from England, Keumajou Yondui moved to the United States last summer. His coach worked with Texas early enrollee DL James Johnson as well. OTF reached out to Keumajou Yondui after his visit and he said he plans to lock in an official visit with Texas but first has to cancel another. He currently has dates for Florida…

Top OT target visiting Texas next week Gilmer (Texas) High 4-star++ offensive tackle Isamel Camara rescheduled his visit to Texas from this week to next week, with April 11 expected for the Longhorns scrimmage. The 6-6, 340-pound ultra athletic tackle was on campus at Texas A&M this week, after Texas and Camara changed the visit schedule. Texas finished its ninth practice of the spring last night. It was a scrimmage setting with dozens of current high school coaches on hand because of the coaching clinic Texas is hosting. Some notes: - While Colin Simmons is clearly the team’s top edge defender, two other defensive ends were singled out for their play yesterday-Lance Jackson and Colton Vasek. Vasek has been a steady (and healthy) performer this spring. - Dia Bell had another strong practice. The true freshman made multiple throws and a scramble that were noted by onlookers. For this week's OTF Sideline Debate, we give our biggest surprises of spring football thus far. Bobby Burton Four freshmen Four freshmen have been the biggest surprise to me. They are Derrek Cooper, Jermaine Bishop, Samari Matthews and Rocky Cummings. Yet when you say “surprise”, they each carry a different context. For example, with Cooper and Bishop, there were pretty high expectations upon arrival. They’ve done nothing but exceed those initial expectations. College Basketball Portal Thread: Roster decisions and top targets Sean Miller and staff had meetings with the current roster this week. OTF believes announcements/decisions will start to be announced in the coming days with the portal officially opening April 7. Texas has also spoken with many agents/representatives of potential targets. Earlier this week 2028 four-star running back Micah Rhodes decommitted from Oklahoma. The borderline five-star back from Klein Oak was part of the Sooners’ class for just a few months before backing off his pledge. Recently, Rhodes took two visits to Austin. “It was a great visit,” the rising junior told OTF of his visit to the Forty Acres last weekend. “I went in the meetings, got to see how Coach (Jabbar) Juluke coaches the running backs, went out to practice. Happy Friday Team Notes *** Possibility on More Portal Additions Texas added former SMU OL Paris Patterson earlier in the week, and may not be done adding to the roster this spring. The Texas staff is continuing to monitor some prospects that are floating in the portal for now. Additionally, the junior college route remains a possibility as well. As I understand the rule, JUCO prospects can communicate directly with a college staff at any moment and should they be eligible, can sign and enroll at any moment as well. Hopefully some of you got a chance to read some of my notes from yesterday’s practice. I have a few more to add below. - I mentioned a likely starter was sidelined on Thursday. I didn’t mention his name because I was awaiting word on exactly what the issue is/was. Since another site went ahead and ran with the name, I can confirm that that player is tight end Michael Masunas. However, I do not know exactly what the injury is. I can confirm it’s an injury of some sort, though I’m not led to believe it’s long term in nature. Masunas has had a bit of a history with soft-tissue injuries in his career. Final Four: 1 seed Texas vs. 1 seed UCLA Game Thread The No. 1 seed Texas Longhorns (35-3) will take on No. 1 seed UCLA (35-1) tonight at 8:30 pm CT in Phoenix with the winner to play for the National Championship Sunday. This is the biggest game for the Texas Longhorns women's program since March of 1987. The reason why is simple. This Texas team has the best chance to play for a National Title since the 1987 team played in the Final Four in the Erwin Center, losing to Louisiana Tech. Sarkisian Feeling "Comfortable" with Performance from Sterling Berkhalter this Spring *** A name that did not grab many headlines during the winter portal is beginning to gain some traction during the spring. Former Wake Forest wide receiver Sterling Berkhalter was singled out by Steve Sarkisian as someone who has pleasantly surprised so far in the spring. “I think, one, he brings experience,” Sarkisian said in reference to the former Wake wide out on Tuesday. “He played in a very similar system at Wake Forest and had a very productive year last year for them. Texas is at the exact midpoint of spring ball. Today is practice no. 8 of 15 total. Couple of notes: 1. Because of expected inclement weather on Saturday, Texas has moved its annual high school coaching clinic from Saturday to Friday. We’re awaiting word on whether Texas might also move its Saturday practice to Friday as well. On Wednesday, the Division I cabinet of the NCAA passed a new rule to address the "ghost transfer" issue in college sports. The new rule: "Penalizes programs that sign a transfer student-athlete, add a transfer student-athlete to a roster, or allow a transfer student-athlete to participate in athletically related activities before the student-athlete is entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal." The new rule, effective immediately for all transfers after on or after Feb. 25, 2026, carries penalties that include: Suspension of the respective sport's head coach for 50% of a season Fine of 20% of that sport's budget. AUSTIN, Texas — Pflugerville Weiss four-star receiver Tre Moore took the trek down I-35 to visit Texas last Saturday, getting his first look at a new Longhorns wide receiver. “It was my first time seeing Cam Coleman,” Moore told OTF. “It was good to see someone that has my same body type, body frame, and see how they’re using him and everything. “It was a really good practice.
