If you throw away all the preconceptions and expectations you had about this game - about what should have happened - and take a step back, what we all actually witnessed yesterday was an absolute classic of a college football game. I spoke with someone who attended Saturday’s practice for a little bit and got to pick their brain on numerous things. Apparently, this practice also served as a viewing window for many donors, and the first half of the practice going against air and/or was mainly 1 on 1 work. Something that came up repeatedly was the size, speed and athleticism of the team. “This is a really well constructed roster,” a source said. “Big shoutout to the personnel people. They’re huge. Texas at Duke (75-60) thoughts: Morning after If one is doom and gloom or looking for a bunch of negativity, this isn't the post for you. Want to get that out of the way. I'm more excited about the potential of this season after the Duke game, than before. Texas has a legit coach, very good concepts in the half court on offense, a team with enough size to compete in the SEC and some players on the perimeter that will look different against future opponents. Three key changes to June 20-22 OV list The final official visit weekend in June for the Longhorns is now the biggest, by far. He may have even pushed ahead of Neto Umeozulu at left guard as starter. Stroh only moved to left guard three weeks ago. He had been apprenticing behind DJ Campbell on the right side with Nate Kibble backing up Neto on the left. Hoops report: Early returns The Texas Longhorns 2024-25 team has reported to Austin, and is in the gym daily. OTF picked up some early thoughts and returns around the program in the last 24 hours. Jayson Kent has been mentioned early on as an impressive pick up. Both physically (from a strength of frame stand point) and really knowing how to play the game. The "knowing how to play the game" is a theme around the program. Texas feels like Tre Johnson and the portal additions are going to be a better "know how to play" team this year. With the departure of Chad Scott yesterday, the Horns are now in need of an RB coach. One name to watch for: Jabbar Juluke, formerly of Florida. Another with less certain availability is Frank Wilson of LSU. College coaches met yesterday at the AFCA convention in Charlotte. The primary topic of conversation was not change to NIL rules, collective bargaining or expansion to a 16- or 24-team playoff. Rather, the focus was expanding the redshirt rule. Currently players can play in four games or less and retain their redshirt. Coaches apparently want to increase that number to 9. The argument, according to folks covering the meetings, is that too many young players are trying to preserve that redshirt at a time when their team actually needs them. Quick catch up from yesterday. - Baseball clinched a double bye for the SEC tournament with their win over Missouri last night. The Horns will finish no lower than tied for 2nd in regular season SEC play. The 2nd place finish comes a year after winning the regular season SEC title. Arch Manning is not infallible. For those trying to make negative premature judgements, I’d caution against that. Strongly. Manning had a good fourth quarter, sustained four drives in the second half, while working through a difficult day at the office. Part of the problem was Ohio State defensive coordinator Matt Patricia was clearly determined not to let the Texas passing game beat him. The gameplan worked. Texas is expected to hire Chad Scott as its next running backs coach, sources tell On Texas Football. Scott’s name was first reported as a possibility by Matt Zenitz of 247Sports. Scott, 43, spent the last six seasons at West Virginia. He was the team’s offensive coordinator for the last two.
