Texas Assistants Speak on Young Standouts *** A few of the Texas Assistant Coaches spoke with the media on Thursday to discuss the spring season as well as reflect on the development of guys in their room. - Kyle Flood on OL John Turntine III "I never doubted that John would put the weight on, if I had concerns about that, then I think it would have been tough to recruit him. I remember Trevor Goosby getting here at sub-270 and he grew and is now 315 or so. But I think (John) is handling the weight very well. He is a very lean guy, so he has to be very deliberate with what he does to put that weight on. And he has done a good job with our nutritio…

I’m told that Javorskie Lane Jr, son of former Texas A&M standout Javorskie Lane, is transferring to Grapevine High School from OD Wyatt. Yall have asked about him numerous times in the past. I still don’t expect Texas to recruit him at this time. No sense in putting all your eggs in a basket that is 99.9% draft bound.

Port Charlotte (Fla.) High 4-star defensive lineman Myron Charles has his official visit date to Texas locked in. Texas had been working on the June 14-16 date, but has settled on getting him in earlier. The Longhorns are set to host the 6-4, 290 pounder May 31-June 2 for an official visit. Charles made an unofficial visit to Texas in late March, and the visit impressed to the level of securing an OV. Florida State has been considered the favorite for months. The Seminoles get the last OV June 21-23. He will visit Texas, Miami and Florida in that order prior to FSU.

University of Texas president Jay Hartzell spoke to the media on Wednesday afternoon following all-day meetings with his conference peers at the SEC spring meetings. - Hartzell was very complimentary of the SEC. He called the event “highly organized” and said he appreciated the SEC’s willingness to bring in student athletes to talk to the university presidents, as well as a league-wide medical official. - Hartzell also talked about the decision to extend Steve Sarkisian’s contract, calling it a no-brainer of sorts. ”I’ve always said when you have someone who is excellent, you want to retain and reward that person.” - Hartzell stopped short of telling t…

Texas landed a commitment from Penn pitcher Eli Trop. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound RHP has one year of eligibility remaining. Trop has a 3.07 career ERA, along with 82 strikeouts during those three years. This has been in the works for quite some time, but I’ve sat on it out of respect for Trop. He originally committed in the fall, as Ivy Leagues don’t allow a fifth year. So he entered his name into the portal in October.

A couple of recruiting updates on some elite 2026 and 2027 prospects in attendance for the Georgia game this weekend. *** A few notes on 2026 visitors: – 2026 Miami Trace (OH) OL Adam Guthrie was able to spend time with Kyle Flood prior to the game. A big attraction for Guthrie prior to his Texas offer was the commitment of QB Dia Bell in the 2026 class and the two were able to catch up a good bit during the afternoon. "We got to hangout and take it in together," Guthrie said about his time with Dia Bell. "I spoke to Coach Flood pregame and then after the game." Guthrie stuck around for a campus tour on Sunday as well. – 2026 Port Arthur Memo…

No. 11 Texas will tip off against No. 6 BYU and star freshman AJ Dybantsa on Thursday night in the first round of the NCAA Tournament (6:15 p.m. CT/TBS). Dybantsa is widely projected to go in the top three picks, many expecting him to be the No. 1 selection, in this summer's NBA Draft. On Wednesday night, Dybantsa joined Scott Van Pelt for a quick interview. Van Pelt asked the Cougars freshman about comparisons to Kevin Durant, whose Big 12 Tournament scoring record Dybantsa just broke last week (93 points). “Definitely his work ethic," Dybantsa replied when asked about mirroring Durant's approach. "I had the blessing to work out with him in Atlanta a co…

Texas forward Nic Codie is expected to enter the NCAA transfer portal, OTF has learned. A source tells OTF that the Longhorns are opting to move in a different direction. Codie is expected to have a number of options elsewhere. One source close to Codie indicated that a return to Texas would not be ruled out but it would have to make sense on the Longhorns’ end. OTF does not expect that to come to fruition. The 6-foot-8 Dallas native just completed his second year with the Longhorns, providing quality minutes off the bench in UT’s NCAA Tournament run. He was part of former head coach Rodney Terry’s 2024 signing class. In 24 games played this past season, Codie…

AUSTIN, Texas — Four-star 2028 edge rusher Tyler Armstrong earned his Texas offer in person at the Longhorns’ Elite Camp last month. The Killeen (Texas) Shoemaker product is coming off a sophomore season where he tallied 26 tackles, including 10 tackles for a loss and four sacks. He also had a pick-six on the season. “It feels great that all my hard work is being recognized by bigger schools,” Armstrong told OTF after his workout in Austin last month. UT edge coach LaAllan Clark led Armstrong through drills, showing the intensity level on the Forty Acres. “They definitely had us out there working,” Armstrong said. “I was definitely sweating a lot. With more offers out in Alabama and North Carolina in the past two days, it's clear to me that Texas coaches are "broadening" their recruiting map. Texas is getting ready to be a true national recruiting school IMO.
