There remain a couple more Longhorns who are expected to enter the portal. None of them are starters. I originally expected 6-8 Longhorns to enter the portal. With 7 already entered, I’d adjust that number upward — 9-11 seems more like it at this point.

Texas will be in the market for a cornerback following the departure of Terrance Brooks Tuesday morning. There remains plenty of time in the portal window to find options at the position, or to see a name or two pop into the fold. A few names at the cornerback spot Texas fans should be aware of as the hunt continues. *** Arizona CB Tacario Davis The Rundown: 6-foot-4 cornerback with one INT in 2023. Allowed 23 receptions on 53 targets (43.4%). PFF Grades: Defensive grade of 85.5 ... Coverage grade of 87.5 Our Gerry Hamilton gave a great rundown of the Arizona cornerback earlier today. Portal interior defensive lineman Jay Toia opted to return to UCLA late Monday evening. Toia was on campus with his family and younger brother over the weekend for the Texas spring game. Texas pushed for the talented interior defensive lineman, who was ranked as the 3rd best at his position per 247Sports. The decision for Toia to return is a blow. Even following the announcement from Bill Norton to commit to Texas, the Longhorns had made it clear they were looking to add another body to that room for Kenny Baker in 2024. While TCU defensive lineman Damonic Williams will make it to campus this afternoon and through Wednesday night, there remains a need for …

Speed kills: Texas fastest 2025 class If the Texas Longhorns game displayed one thing outside of a very strong quarterback room, it's the fact that Steve Sarkisian and staff have recruited a faster overall team with each class. And the 2025 class has the ability to be the fastest yet, which is saying something. OnTexasFootball begins Tuesday with a look at which prospects would build out the fastest Texas class in 2025. An explosive list Dakorien Moore, WR, Duncanville (Texas) High, 5-11, 180 The speed: Moore ran 10.5 in the 100 meters this spring, and will be at the state meet in multiple relays and the long jump. As Steve Sarkisian has started his spring practice exit interviews, there has been some potential movement behind the scenes. Just so everyone is aware, we are hearing of a returning Longhorns defensive starter potentially hitting the portal. However, no decision has been finalized to our knowledge. And I want to make sure everyone understands I italicized the word “potentially” for a reason. We’ll see what happens in the next 24 hours and update accordingly. The deadline to enter the portal ends April 30.

According to Pete Thamel of ESPN, Texas RB Savion Red is expected to announce his entry to the NCAA Transfer Portal during the window this month. Red played in 12 games in 2023 where he had 30 rushing attempts for 131 yards. Texas is still in a fine position in the running back room with the return of Jaydon Blue and CJ Baxter leading the way, as well as the spring emergence of Tre Wisner. The Longhorns also have true freshmen Christian Clark and Jerrick Gibson in the room with Tashard Choice as well. View full news story

The Texas Longhorns have secured their first defensive line portaler of the spring and their second of the offseason. Bill Norton, formerly of Arizona by way of Georgia, has committed to Texas following a weekend visit for the spring game. Norton entered the portal April 13 and immediately took interest in the Longhorns. Of course, it certainly helped the Longhorns' case that former Arizona defensive coordinator Johnny Nansen is now on campus in Austin, as he was key in helping Steve Sarkisian pull in both Tia Savea and now Norton. Texas continues to look to add to its DL room with the pursuit of UCLA DL Jay Toia and TCU DL Damonic Williams both still in pl…

Portal Kombat: Hoops recruiting update The Texas Longhorns basketball program is closing in on three big decisions out of the NCAA Transfer portal. OnTexasFootball brings you guys and gals the latest. Jordan Pope, PG/CG, Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep - *Oregon State transfer The Texas Longhorns have confidence on the 6-1.5, 170 pound point guard after making visits last week to Texas and Texas A&M. The big question here is if any other teams attempt to enter the race late (ie an Arkansas or someone similar). Pope averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game over 64 games (63 starts) in two seasons. He connected on 43.9% …

Port Charlotte (Fla.) High 4-star defensive lineman Myron Charles has his official visit date to Texas locked in. Texas had been working on the June 14-16 date, but has settled on getting him in earlier. The Longhorns are set to host the 6-4, 290 pounder May 31-June 2 for an official visit. Charles made an unofficial visit to Texas in late March, and the visit impressed to the level of securing an OV. Florida State has been considered the favorite for months. The Seminoles get the last OV June 21-23. He will visit Texas, Miami and Florida in that order prior to FSU.

The portal juice: Big game hunting The Texas Longhorns are big game hunting, or deep sea fishing as Steve Sarkisian once referenced in an interview. This morning, OnTexasFootball gives a rundown of the Longhorns efforts in the transfer portal. Joy Toia, DL, Inglewood (Calif.) Grace Brethren - *UCLA transfer Toia and family members made a visit over the weekend to Texas. By all accounts, the visit was a big success for Sarkisian, Kenny Baker and Johnny Nansen. Toia, 6-1 and 325 pounds, is considered a considerable Texas lean by OnTexasFootball. A decision without another visit is on the table. OTF percentage: 80% Damonic Williams, DL,…

One of my favorite post-game topics of discussion revolves around the three stars of the game. Essentially, who made the most noise on the field and had the best showing during the Longhorns' spring game. I have done this on Twitter for a couple of years now, but want to expand into the explanation as to why each player received their position on the star ranking. *** Star No. 1 – QB Arch Manning I mean, duh. Manning was incredible on Saturday en route to a 355-yard passing day. Three touchdown passes, including a pair of 75-yard bombs to DeAndre Moore and Isaiah Bond. Manning looked very comfortable in clean pockets and delivered footballs all afterno…

Recruiting: Spring Game News The Texas Longhorns hosted a number of top targets this weekend, including a quartet of top targets. OnTexasFootball will have some individual recruit reaction in the next two or three days, but here are some key happenings from Saturday. Riley Pettijohn, LB, McKinney (Texas) High OnTexasFootball considers the 4-star linebacker a considerable Texas lean after Saturday. There is a comfort with Texas by Pettijohn, and his family. Steve Sarkisian and Johnny Nansen are the keys here for Texas. The direction of the program under Sarkisian isn't in question with Pettijohn and family, and the football and academic combo combined …

I mean, I think we all knew Texas was talented. But did we know the Horns were that talented? ** Arch Manning was sublime. The redshirt freshman made the short throws, he made the long and medium ones, too. He moved the chains at a ridiculous rate - scoring on 6 of his 8 possessions, foiled only by a missed field goal and the end of the game. The two long balls, one to DeAndre Moore and the other to Isaiah Bond, will likely get the majority of air play on national TV highlights. But those two tosses were a mere sampling of Manning’s accuracy, decisiveness and acumen delivering the ball the entire contest. In short, he was nothing short o…

Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian on the podium to discuss the Texas 2024 Spring Game: *** Sark was pleased to have played 100+ snaps and see no significant injuries. Does not sound like TE Jordan Washington's knick was too significant. *** Steve Sarkisian says it was totally the plan for QB Quinn Ewers to only see two series. Adds it was the reason why both Ewers and Arch Manning were on the same team. Wanted Manning to go play extended snaps for the first time in quite a while. *** "Our EDGE pass rush is real." Sarkisian says the Longhorns have addressed the edge with Trey Moore, Colin Simmons, Colton Vasek, Ethan Burke, Justice Finkley and Zina Umeozulu.…

QBs We’re being told that Quinn Ewers will be on a “pitch count” today. Expect lots of Arch Manning and Trey Owens. It will be interesting to see just how well Manning handles the pass rush, which seems to be perhaps the largest concern. RBs Ced Baxter and Jaydon Blue will be improved versions of 2023. So much of the attention will be on the true freshmen, Tre Wisner and Savion Red. What role does Red have in this offense? WRs No position has more question marks while simultaneously enjoying as much talent. The question surrounds who will separate from the talented pack. TEs I’m being told that Juan Davis has been a bit of a revelation t…

The Texas spring game kicks off Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at DKR, concluding the 15-practice spring session for Steve Sarkisian's program. Of course, many will look at the spring game as the final test after a months worth of studying. While there certainly will be more intense grading and sideline experts with eyes hounding the performance on the field, the strengths and weaknesses of this football team have been known for several weeks. There remains plenty of time for shortcomings to turn to strengths as the summer months come and go. However, for now, I wanted to give a heat check on what the strengths and weaknesses of the 2024 Texas team currently are as they …
