Quick notes from practice last night: * The Texas receiving corps is working extra hard right now. The top-line guys (Cam Coleman, Ryan Wingo, and Emmett Mosley) all stayed after practice to work on red zone routes with the quarterbacks. * The starter who was in the green jersey on Monday was no longer wearing one on Tuesday. * Texas OL coach Kyle Flood continues to seek the best fit for the left guard spot. Gerry Hamilton calls football recruiting a “talent maximization” game. Sure, a recruit has to have some requisite physical skills. But the real difference in a recruit making it or not comes from a combination of commitment to craft, football smarts, work ethic, and more intangibles than I can list. This morning, we should all wake up thankful. Thankful that Brett Yormark and the Big 12 are in the rearview mirror. Yormark’s latest performance came at the Big 12 preseason media days that began yesterday. Yormark announced that it is no longer the “Big 12” officially, not when it comes to football. It’s actually the “Monster Energy Big 12 Conference”. Furthermore, every conference football field and jersey will be emblazoned with Monster Energy incorporated into the logo. Texas football recruiting marches to its own pace. Every time you think there might be a run of commitments, the call for “patience” almost immediately re-introduces itself. Sark doesn’t mind that. Neither does Brandon Harris. After all, it’s how you finish in recruiting that matters, not how you start. All they care about-and justifiably so-are the results. Earlier this week, Texas announced it would be bringing three players to SEC media days next week. The three (Arch Manning, Trevor Goosby and Colin Simmons) come as no surprise. The practice and the notes coming from it were on “background” only, so you won’t see or hear specific notes from it on here or elsewhere. Southern Lab has been talking with Steve Sarkisian, LaAllen Clark and Kenny Baker weekly for the last 5-6 weeks. Obviously, that is giving Texas the feeling they can position themselves with a successful weekend to be right there battling Texas A&M, LSU and Miami. Wednesday AM recruiting nuggets Lewisville (Texas) High 5-star left tackle Michael Fasusi was on campus Tuesday for more of the day. He was accompanied on the trip by his father. Fasusi took in most of the Texas practice and met with Kyle Flood and Steve Sarkisian for an extended amount of time. As important as the meetings were with Flood and Sarkisian for Fasusi and his father, it was the business school that took center stage. In a roller coaster of a game, the Longhorns came from behind and beat Texas State 14-11 last night. First, I want to start with this... One thing to realize about mid-week games is that Texas doesn't approach them the same way they do weekend series. At all. In the grand scheme of things, they aren't anywhere near as important, they aren't going to hurt you a ton if you lose and obviously you want to rest your key guys as much as possible. As CJ Vogel reported yesterday, Texas has had preliminary contact with Converse Judson defensive lineman Johnny Bowens. Bowens originally chose Oregon over Texas and Texas A&M in the class of 2023 and spent the fall of '23 and spring of '24 in Eugene before entering the transfer portal. So where does Texas sit in this recruitment? Behind the scenes: There is a large NIL fundraiser scheduled for Friday and Saturday. There’s a golf scramble on Friday morning followed by a Brooks & Dunn concert on Saturday night at DKR. The two-day event also includes a silent auction. The first injury availability report has been released. Texas will be without starting center Cole Hutson when on the road this weekend in Lexington. Hutson sustained an injury in practice and very quickly was given the inactive designation. The expectation is Connor Robertson will start at center for the Horns this weekend. Connor Stroh also appears on the injury report on the offensive line. As does Xavier Filsaime in the back end of the defense. View full news story

The Texas availability report has been released ahead of this weekend’s matchup against Vanderbilt. Isaiah Bond has been hobbled with an ankle injury he suffered against Oklahoma.
