Texas hasn’t added a 2028 commitment thus far on the recruiting trail, but we’re entering the portion of the calendar when we typically see some movement on the underclassman front. Here’s a look at prospects who could be the first to commit to the Longhorns from the class of 2028. Most likely Micah Rhodes, 4-star RB, Spring (Texas) Klein Oak The one-time Oklahoma commit Texas legacy (yes, you read that right) visited Austin three times this spring. OTF believes this is UT’s recruitment to lose, assuming the staff presses to add the talented Top100 back. Rhodes’ grandfather, Bobby, played for the Longhorns in the 80s. That connection to the program…

Steve Sarkisian's staff is out on the road checking out spring evaluations and future prospects. As final judgements are made, I wanted to provide a look at where the Longhorn class sits in comparison to previous years. Also, a quick look at other classes from notable programs across the country. *** 2027 Class vs. Previous Years From when the first week of May. 2027 Class 10 commits One 5-star – WR Easton Royal National Rank: 14th 2026 Class …

As it stands now, five-star cornerback John Meredith III has official visit dates scheduled for: Alabama -- May 29-31 Texas -- June 5-7 Texas A&M -- June 12-14 Ohio State -- June 19-21 OTF has learned that a shakeup could be made to the slate, with the Aggies visit moving to the May 29-31 slot and the Alabama visit either being called off or moved to another date. Meredith has the OT7 finals from June 12-14, making a visit that weekend impossible. For now, the Ohio State visit is still set for the last weekend in June, and of course Texas is still set for June 5-7. OTF continues to believe the Longhorns are trending in this recru…

Texas hoops will be ranked top 10 in 2026-27: But what does it really mean? The Texas Longhorns will be ranked anywhere from No. 7 to 12 in the preseason polls prior to the 2026-27 season. With that ranking comes heightened expectations, especially coming off the Sweet 16 run in year one under Sean Miller. But the question is what does the lofty preseason ranking next year actually mean for the Longhorns? The answer is Texas has the opportunity to have a tremendous season. And with that everything is on the table whether it’s back to the second weekend, an Elite 8 appearance, Final Four appearance or the magic carpet ride to playing for it all. And the f…

A Look at the Defense Construction Under Sark *** Following the same practice that I brought up late last week regarding the Texas offense, I wanted to do the same thing for the Texas defense under the Sark era. There is not as many squares filled by opposing schools out of the protal, but it is worth noting that Texas is good for a couple of defensive starters each year. By Year: 2021: EDGE Ovie Oghoufo (Notre Dame) and EDGE Ray Thornton (LSU) 2022: EDGE Ovie Oghoufo (Notre Dame) and CB Ryan Watts (Ohio State) 2023: CB Ryan Watts (Ohio State) 2024 DL Jermayne Lole (Louisville) and LB Trey Moore (UTSA) 2025: DL Hero Kanu…

Texas extended an offer to 6-foot-2, 205-pound Louisville athlete commit Brooklyn Maxey on Tuesday afternoon, the Tampa (Fla.) Carrollwood Day product announced. "It felt great, not gonna lie," Maxey said. "Every offer feels amazing, but definitely out of all my offers it's one of the offers that felt best, like wow. Bama and Texas for sure." Mark Orphey extended the offer to Maxey after visiting him at school. The Longhorns like the rising senior at safety. "With my size I definitely can see myself playing in the SEC for sure," Maxey said. "So just that and obviously the SEC is the best conference you can play in. It's a big opportunity. I love Texas. New Name on the Board: Jack Whelchel, DB, Boca Raton (Fla.) Saint Andrew's *** Texas is monitoring another 2027 defensive prospect. After our @Hank South put up the note this afternoon regarding Brooklyn Maxey and a potential official visit in the works, I can confirm there is an additional out of state player the Longhorns are currently monitoring. Jack Whelchel, out of Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Florida is getting a look from the Longhorns this week. Jeff Banks stopped by in Boca on Monday according to Whelchel, and it is expected that Johnny Nansen stops through the school on Friday. Whelchel mentioned he would have interest in visi…

Path to a top 5 level class: Texas needs to go on a run The Texas Longhorns 2027 recruiting class ranks in the 13-15 range as of May 6. One of the questions that is being asked of late is if Steve Sarkisian and staff have a shot at a top 5 level class in this cycle. While a lot of that could well come down to how many prospects Texas signs in the class, there is little doubt the Longhorns have a shot to finish with a class inside the top 10 rankings. Texas currently has 10 commitments, which is well behind the numbers of some others. Oklahoma leads the country with 21 pledges. UCLA, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, USC, Florida and Penn state all have 13 or more. …

Which Back Sets Texas Up for Success Most in Short Distance Situations? *** A hot topic of conversation this offseason has been rightfully about the offensive line and the running game for 2026. Texas desperately needs to find more success in short distance rushing situations this upcoming fall. It was a frustrating year altogether, but if Texas can return to having success near the goal line or on 3rd and 4th downs when needing to extend drives, there will be much more success for the offense in its entirety. I ran the numbers earlier in the offseason regarding which Longhorn backs had the most success rushing the football last year in these instances…

OTF reported on Tuesday that four-star tight end Brock Williams will announce his college decision on May 15 between Texas, Georgia, and Ohio State. Here, the OTF grouping of Hank South, Gerry Hamilton, and CJ Vogel log our official forecast for where we think Williams will decide on. If you've been on OTF this will not come as a surprise. Gerry Hamilton -- Texas Texas tight ends coach Jeff Banks has been recruiting 4-star++ Brock Williams for well over a year now. During that time, Williams has been on campus more than once. With each visit the Longhorns ascended in the recruitment. Steve Sarkisian‘s offensive scheme and the success of the tight end…

OTF on the Road at Austin Westlake *** On the road catching Texas OL commit Jackson Cook in action this morning at Westlake practice. The Longhorns have had a very successful run at Westlake and Cook is next in line to continue the run on Chaps to Longhorns. Yesterday, Florida State and Georgia announced they were canceling a home and home series and instead looking into a single game at a neutral field. Why would they do that? Well, there’s the fact that neither team wants to subject themselves to difficult non-conference match-ups in multiple years as opposed to just one. Score one for the current 12-team format I guess. Perhaps if the number were already at 24 teams, the two programs would be less inclined to be worried about an extra early season loss. But I think the real reason is much, much different. And much more sad. I think it’s because a neutral site game potentially allows for the players to b…

Happy Friday! *** Welcome to Friday, folks. We are just a few hours away from the weekend, so hopefully this article knocks off a few minutes of waiting for 5:00 p.m. to arrive! *** Where's the Team? Saturday is graduation for the 2025-2026 class year at The University of Texas. Finals, for the most part, are completely wrapped up on campus and the majority of students are in celebration mode for the weekend. As a result, a good chunk of the team has left Austin and returned home. A good chunk have returned to watch spring practices at their alma maters: Connor Robertson at Westlake, Kohen Brown at Waxahachie, John Turntine III at…

For today's OTF Sideline Debate, the OTF crew discusses which position we believe Texas would have needed to tackle IF there was a spring transfer portal window this year. Take a look! Bobby Burton If the Horns had another shot at it, I think they’d still try to bolster the OL, especially the interior. Look, I like Connor Robertson and Laurence Seymore, but I’m not sure either of them are early draft picks. One more elite interior OL, and I could easily see this OL as a major team strength. I am that confident about Trevor Goosby, Brandon Baker and Melvin Siani being future NFL players. Gerry Hamilton If there was a spring portal window, wha…

Opinion and intel from the road: Who is leaning where Let's get Saturday started with the opinions, intel and the latest from my stops on the road this week, and intel from working the phones. 5-star Texas commit Easton Royal Still really like where Texas sits. Pretty much the entire Texas offensive staff will be by the school next Thursday. I would put Florida 2nd and LSU 3rd - currently. Ole Miss and Tennessee also get OV's. Texas has last OV June 19-21. 4-star++ EDGE Jabrrius Garror Believe this is Texas and Miami top 2 headed into Georgia OV this weekend. Auburn and Florida State will also get OV's. Texas A&M fading. 5-star Brysen Wright speaks highly of Texas OnTexasFootball stopped by Mandarin High in Jacksonville, Fla. Friday to see one of the top 20 of prospects in the class of 2028. Brysen Wright is a 6-foot-4, 195-pound wide receiver with 39 offers, including the Longhorns May 15 of 2025. Texas wide receivers coach Chris Jackson was by Mandarin High Thursday, which made for perfect timing of an OTF school visit. What impressed me Friday ... His talent is undeniable, so we will leave that to the HUDL tape linked below. He's a very naturally gifted receiver with smooth feet, that is also a physical presence when lined up at safety out of necessity. Wright…

- Texas men’s football commitment Easton Royal ran a 10.17 100-meter dash to win the Louisiana state championship in record fashion. He also anchored his team’s 4x100 relay to victory. - Texas softball dominated Alabama in the SEC final. Teagan Kavan pitched a 12-strikeout gem and Katie Stewart launched her 25th home run of the season. Stewart’s homer went over the left field scoreboard. - Texas baseball has lost the first two games of the series against Tennessee in Knoxville. It’s the second series loss of the season for the Horns after falling at A&M a couple of weeks ago. Perhaps more importantly is the injury bug. Second baseman Ethan Mendoza rolled his…

I’m not sure if folks read the article in The Athletic yesterday. But for those who didn’t, an opposing coach basically went all-in on the Texas portal transfer class. And not in a good way. The coach questioned the running back additions, the addition of Rasheem Biles, the price paid for Cam Coleman and more. Every comment was ripe with skepticism. So here’s my response: Texas signed the best portal class in the SEC not named LSU. The coach mentioned Hollywood Smothers being “ok”, but failed to mention Raleek Brown. The coach mentioned Biles being a weak-side linebacker being asked to play in a 3-4 and bemoaned that Justin Cryer is a st…

Texas Offers 2027 Gunter (TX) OL Caleb Siler *** Kyle Flood and the Texas staff extended an offer late Sunday evening up in the north DFW area. 6-foot-8-inch Gunter High OL Caleb Siler reported an offer from The University of Texas, the 29th of his recruitment. Siler originally visited the Longhorns on April 3rd and Texas circles back with an offer about five weeks after. In regards to an official visit, it appears likely. However, Siler did say they are awaiting finalization of dates when discussing the offer late Sunday night. Will update in the coming days, but it’s looking like a new name will be added to the June OV window. View…
