Texas received big news following its final spring practice, as four-star edge rusher Derwin Fields of Brookhaven (Miss.) committed to the Longhorns over Georgia, Miami, Ole Miss and Tennessee. The 6-foot-2, 225-pound Fields is the ninth Texas pledge in the class of 2027. Last season Fields tallied a whopping 21 tackles for a loss and 11 sacks. The late run on the transfer portal continues for Texas, as the Longhorns have added a defensive back to the fold in Brown cornerback Nick Hudson. The Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek product is entering his redshirt senior season after appearing in just seven games in 2025. For his career at Brown, Hudson tallied 52 tackles and 13 pass breakups in 27 games. Entering 2025, Hudson was a Third Team Phil Steele Preseason All-Ivy selection. Hudson is the nephew of former Colorado standout Chris Hudson, who was an All-American and Jim Thorpe Award Winner in 1994. BOOM! Texas has landed another commitment, this time from Dallas South Oak Cliff offensive tackle Brian Swanson. At 6-foot-5.5, 305 pounds, Swanson chose the Longhorns over Oklahoma and SMU amongst three dozen other offers. The State Champion offensive tackle gave the good news to the Texas staff on his official visit before going public with the decision on Wednesday. Five-star cornerback and Texas commit John Meredith III has reclassified to 2026 and will join the Longhorns this fall, OnTexasFootball has learned. He’s now part of a 26-man high school class the Longhorns signed that ranked No. 7 in the country. It’s remains unknown where Meredith’s ranking will place after the move, but the 6-foot-2, 175-pounder is considered one of the top prospects regardless of class. Brandon Brown update OnTexasFootball caught up with 4-star defensive line commit Brandon Brown (Melbourne, Fla./Eau Gallie) a few minutes ago. Brown, 6-1.5 and 285 pounds, told OTF that Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker is scheduled to be by the school Monday afternoon for spring practice. This will be the first time Baker has watched Brown practice or play live. Brown also told OTF that he has replaced the Florida May 31-June 2 official visit with LSU. So the OV's are LSU, Tennessee June 7-9, Texas June 14-16 and USC June 21-23. Florida is fifth in the race.

Eau Gallie, Fla., defensive lineman Brandon Brown, who is committed to Texas, has made it to LSU for his official visit this weekend to LSU. He plans to visit Tennessee next weekend, and then Texas the following week. But he has changed some other plans. Brown was slated to visit either USC or A&M the final week of June.
