We'll use this thread to track all portal news that pertains to Texas baseball. I'll start with the news I broke yesterday: Texas landed a commitment from Penn pitcher Eli Trop. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound RHP has one year of eligibility remaining. Trop has a 3.07 career ERA, along with 82 strikeouts during those three years. I know some outlets reported this happened a couple of weeks ago, but Trop originally committed in the fall, as Ivy Leagues don’t allow a fifth year. So he entered his name into the portal in October. We've sat on it until he was okay with us going public with it after the coaching change.

Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek 2026 wide receiver Chris Stewart has committed to the Texas Longhorns. Stewart, 6-0 and 175 pounds, committed to the Longhorns over offers from Alabama, Tennessee, Florida, Michigan, Oklahoma and 10 others. Stewart has been a target of Chris Jackson since being offered by the Longhorns December 8, 2023. The Houston area prospect returned to Texas June 1 for Elite Camp. He followed up by camping at Texas A&M June 8. He caught 35 passes for 564 yards and 10 touchdowns in 2023 as a sophomore. Stewart becomes the second commitment of the 2026 class for the Longhorns. The University of Texas has its sights on a new head baseball coach. Jim Schlossnagle is set to become the next head coach at Texas, as first reported by Horns247's Chip Brown. A couple of nuggets on this fine Tuesday morning. *** I exchanged messages with some folks this morning in regards to 2025 Folsom DL Josiah Sharma. OTF's Gerry Hamilton has done a great job with this recruitment. The big concern coming into the weekend was Alabama being able to use its preexisting relationship with Sharma to get the edge over the efforts Texas has been working on the last six months. What would Texas look like with Arthur Kaluma? Kansas State transfer forward Arthur Kaluma is currently on a visit to Texas with a decision expected out of Texas and SMU in the coming days. Kaluma, 6-7 and 225 pounds, has played three season of high-major basketball. He played at Creighton for two seasons before transferring to Kansas State for the 2023-24 season. I'm told that Steve Sarkisian is expected to add long-time college recruiting coordinator and professional scout Bill Rees to his football staff. The exact role Rees will have with the team is unclear. Sarkisian re-tooled his off-field support staff this off-season following the departure of former GM Billy Glasscock to Ole Miss. Sarkisian elevated Brandon Harris to GM, John Michael Jones to Director of Player Personnel, Taylor Searels to Director of Recruiting and Kyndal Perry to Director of Recruiting Operations. The University of Texas will have a new baseball coach heading into the SEC for the 2025 season. Head coach David Pierce will not return following eight seasons in charge. Pierce accumulated a record of 297–162 while leading the Longhorns, including three trips to Omaha for the College World Series and regular season Big 12 titles in 2018, 2021 and 2023. In 2024, Texas finished a rollercoaster of a season with a 34–26 record, falling short as the three seed in the College Station regional after squandering a game late against Texas A&M and coming out very flat against Louisiana with the season on the line. 2025 San Juan Capistrano LB Madden Faraimo is headed back home to the west coast. The visit went very well for Texas and Faraimo on the weekend. Faraimo confirmed it was his second time on campus, he had originally visited in early April — a very under the radar visit that was not leaked out at the time. Texas, Notre Dame, Washington and USC are the contending teams. OTF spoke with Ruston (La) High 2025 CB Aidan Anding prior to his flight home. He gave the Texas visit a “Ten out of ten”. Anding said he will spend time talking to his family and DB coach at Ruston High this week, and announce a decision next weekend - if not earlier in the week.
