That means there will be a surprise commitment or three in the next days, and some recruitments that begin to shift. In the case of the Longhorns, the pivotal month in the 2026 cycle begins June 6-8 with the first of three big weekends in a row. Big week for Texas recruiting To say this is a big week for Texas football recruiting, and a big close to the month would be an understatement. Steve Sarkisian and staff are now in a position for some key recruitments to fall their way with the flip of Kade Phillips and Michael Fasusi have been trending away. With five decisions for sure by the end of August, the Longhorns have to win two. And in reality, winning three is what is needed for the class headed into the season. Texas received good news yesterday when Ethan Mendoza made the decision to return to school. Longhorns assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki met with Mendoza and his family yesterday at their home in Bedford and the two parties agreed it would be best for him to finish his final year of college baseball in Austin. Unfortunately for Mendoza, he will require shoulder surgery, which is set to take place this week. As far as a timetable for a return goes, that is currently up in the air. Big time out of state visitor Wednesday OnTexasFootball has learned that Sunshine State 4-star wide receiver and Oregon commitment Dallas Wilson (Tampa, Fla./Tech) is scheduled to make an unofficial visit to Texas June 5 per a source close to the recruitment in Tampa. Wilson, 6-2.75 and 185 pounds with 10 inch hands, was offered by the Longhorns in September of 2023. Special teams coach and area recruiter Jeff Banks made the offer to Wilson. Texas is moving on and will spend New Years in Atlanta. *** Run Game Thriving For the third time in four games Texas rushed for more than 230 yards. Of course, the one outlier here is the Georgia game where Texas totaled just 31 yards on the ground on the afternoon in Atlanta. But safe to say, there will be some notable success behind this Texas offensive line against anyone not named Georgia. 2026 Returning Production Percentages from ESPN's Billy Connelly *** One of the most intriguing offseason pieces dropped Monday morning by ESPN's Bill Connelly. The returning production percentages of all 138 D1 programs has the Longhorns in the top 10, just a few ticks away from the top spot. Blake Gideon is set to return to Austin as the Longhorns safeties coach in 2026. Gideon was the Longhorns’ safeties coach in 2024 and helped orchestrate a top ten defense with a hand over the backend of the defense. Georgia Tech hired Gideon as their defensive coordinator for the 2025 season, though after one year, Gideon returns to Austin. Sarkisian Speaks on Body Changes from the Spring *** First day of camp is a lot like the first day of school for us in the media. Of course, back in school, you were excited to return only to see the friends you did not have a chance to see during the summer months. That hasn't exactly been the case for Steve Sarkisian.
