It’s ok if you woke up with a smile on your face this morning. I did, too. It was no dream. The Horns whipped Michigan in their house. ** Sark’s gameplan was masterful. Even though the Horns had four offensive penalties in the first half, including one phantom call that took a touchdown off the board, Texas still scored 24 points in that crucial time period. That hot start for the offense paid other dividends. It allowed the Texas defense to stick to its own masterful gameplan. That gameplan? The Horns dared quarterback Davis Warren to beat them. I'm still in Ann Arbor. I'm here relishing in the glow of victory! Some quick thoughts: - I felt like this game was decided in the first half. Look at these Halftime stats: 1st Downs - 15 to 4 3rd Down conversions - 8-10 to 1-5 Total Yards - 279 to 88 Time of Possession - 19:06 to 10:54 My friends, that is complete and utter domination for an entire half of football. ** Sark in the red zone. Initial Pregame Takeaway It is a bit breezy here in Ann Arbor. I don’t suspect it to be too much of an issue, but you never know when a strong gust will pick up and impact a ball in the air. Friday recruiting nuggets Savannah, Ga. - OnTexasFootball made two more key stops on Thursday in the Peach State. OTF began the day with a stop in Greensboro, Ga. to see Florida State commit and Texas target Kevin Wynn at Greene County High. Wynn, 6-2 and 324 pounds well put together, speaks with Texas defensive line coach Kenny Baker multiple times per week. Wynn told OTF a visit during the season is likely, either in September or October. Green County High has bye weeks September 20 and October 11. Obviously, October 11 weekend is OU in Dallas. Xavier Worthy had two TDs last night for the Chiefs in the NFL regular season opener. The Longhorn product had a scintillating reverse for a score and then a long TD pass against blown coverage. It’s indicative of just what and who Texas must replace this year. Worthy made a helluva catch against Alabama last year to get the scoring started for Texas. This truly has been one of my favorite game previews. Texas has played in several big games since I started covering the program, none have been against the defending National Champions. There also have been fewer programs that have seen as much turnover as Michigan on a year to year basis, especially after seeing how much success they had a year ago. Yesterday, I spoke with the radio play-by-play Voice of the Michigan Wolverines, Doug Karsch, for an interview that we will post on OTF later today. Karsch had a lot of interesting things to say overall, but one was a real eye opener. He compared the Michigan defensive front to the old Miami defensive fronts of the 90s. A few final observations about the Texas season opener against Colorado State ahead of their trip to Ann Arbor to face the defending National Champions. *** I have yet to rewatch the entirety of the Michigan-Fresno State game, but that is on the agenda for some point today and into Wednesday. Elijah Barnes Update OnTexasFootball spoke with a source close to Dallas (Texas) Skyline 4-star+ linebacker and Texas commitment Elijah Barnes. Barnes, 6-2.5, 239 pounds, is back to being 100% locked in with the Longhorns following an unofficial visit to Oregon last weekend.
