The Latest on Laurence Seymore *** Texas Longhorns football head coach Steve Sarkisian struck a measured but optimistic tone Monday morning as he met with local media ahead of spring practice. For the second time in less than two months, Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon defensive lineman Kasi Currie travelled to Texas to check in with the Longhorns, this time for spring practice. “It was great,” Currie told OTF. “The energy was high. The intensity. Really just getting to watch Richard Wesley play. It was really great watching him. Spending some time watching Coach (Kenny) Baker coach the guys, that was pretty good, too.” Wesley, a former teammate of Currie’s at Sierra Canyon, called the rising senior and told him he had to make it back out for practice. Tramon Mark’s last two shots will make all the highlight reels, as they should. But I felt like the real hero of last night’s Texas 68-66 win over NC State in the play-in game of the NCAA tourney was Chendall Weaver. Weaver finished with the first double-double of his career. He was 3-5 from the field and 5-6 from the free throw line. He also had two steals and just one turnover. Weaver did not leave the court from the 16-minute mark of the second half to the end of the game. A key role player during the season, Weaver’s all-around play was a focal point last night. The spring break intermission will wrap up this weekend and Texas will soon be back on the field on Tuesday. *** Note on Jonah Williams I was told during the week that the conversation about the two-sport star picking one sport in particular for his future has no real standing. With Texas Pro Day set to commence on Tuesday, we'll see an additional batch of former Longhorns workout in front of scouts, coaches, and GMs on the Forty Acres this week. Seven former UT players tested in Indianapolis last month. They included: Trey Moore, DJ Campbell, Michael Taaffe, Jaylon Guilbeau, Anthony Hill Jr., Jack Endries, and Malik Muhammad. The Texas staff recently extended a late 2026 offer to Humble (Texas) Summer Creek edge rusher Brinley Tita. The in-state standout didn't wait long to take the Longhorns up on the invitation, and has signed with the program ahead of summer. The new 105 scholarship limit has allowed the UT staff to add more developmental pieces to the fold. Per a source at Texas, Tita is seen as a solid in-state player that adds depth to the edge room. The 6-foot-2, 225-pounder tallied 94 total tackles, including 22 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks as a senior on his way to earning Co-Defenisve Player of the Year honors in 23-6A. Yesterday afternoon, I wrote about the movement during spring on the offensive side of the ball, what we learned, what we didn’t, etc. Now it’s time to do the same for the defense. Texas Offers 2027 Gunter (TX) OL Caleb Siler *** Kyle Flood and the Texas staff extended an offer late Sunday evening up in the north DFW area. 6-foot-8-inch Gunter High OL Caleb Siler reported an offer from The University of Texas, the 29th of his recruitment. Siler originally visited the Longhorns on April 3rd and Texas circles back with an offer about five weeks after. In regards to an official visit, it appears likely. Texas wide receiver target Briceson Thrower will announce his college decision on July 17, the North Forney (Texas) product posted on his Instagram on Monday.
