Texas Hoops Report: Summer standouts The Texas Longhorns have begun summer workouts with new strength and conditioning coach Darby Rich having been announced by the university. The team has been going through testing, S&C workouts, on court workouts and has begun playing 5v5 with the entire team now in Austin. OTF provides some notes from the summer thus far. Guards turning heads The guard on the Texas team as a whole are expected to be on another level than last season. That's not a surprise to hear from a pure talent versatility and length stand point. Summer workouts permitted by NCAA Rules Skill Instruction: A maximum of 4 hours per week can be used on-court for skill-related instruction and non-contact drills with coaches. Strength & Conditioning: The remaining 4 hours must be allocated to weight training, conditioning, and team-building activities. Texas hoops S&C coach Cory Schlesinger headed to the NBA Texas basketball strength & conditioning coach Cory Schlesinger is departing Texas and headed to the NBA. Schlesinger, who is considered one of the best in his field, is expected to take the same position with the Detroit Pistons. Texas Hoops Update: Latest on injuries The Texas Longhorns (9-2) will be back on the court Thursday facing a New Orleans (2-7) team that won't provide a test. Texas is once again expected to play without star freshman shooting guard Tre Johnson (21.1 ppg), who has a minor hip injury. Johnson is expected back on the court after the Christmas break. Texas won the scrimmage 80-52 against a TCU team that isn't considered quite as strong as the last 2-3 teams in Fort Worth.
