Updates on the Secondary from the First Padded Practice **** Intel from fall camp with a focus on the Texas secondary. – Praise went to Bo Mascoe for his coverage ability. Right now, it appears the Rutgers transfer is the top corner on the roster. – There are sky high expectations for Kade Phillips going into year two. Will he reach those expectations? Obviously that remains to be seen, OTF has learned there remains room for improved consistency with the glimmers of brilliance scattered in. I would not say that's a reason for panic, just consider who Phillips is battling with every single day in practice at receiver. Keep in mind Phillips is a year tw…

Texas took the day off yesterday. Well, not “off” entirely. They had team meetings, participated in a culture Wednesday activity, etc. But they were “off” the football field at least. ** Some folks have asked whether the so-called “Mini Moody” remains in the future plans of the athletic department. I’m told it most certainly does. It’ll be a new venue for the volleyball team and smaller concert events. There are also plans for an athletic village near the area for 500+ student athletes. The trend in major sports is to create entertainment venues around stadiums and arenas. Texas is not doing that in the same way perhaps an NFL or MLB tea…

Texas’ 12-game schedule features 10 teams that don’t have quarterback competitions, at least not in the scope of who QB1 is entering the season. Texas State — Brad Jackson Ohio State — Julian Sayin UTSA — Owen McCown Sr. Oklahoma — John Mateer Ole Miss — Trinidad Chambliss Mississippi State — Kamario Taylor Missouri — Austin Simmons Jr. LSU — Sam Leavitt Texas A&M — Marcel Reed That leaves Tennessee and Florida still figuring things out under center. Who better to get the local buzz from as to where each battle stands than boots-on-the-ground reporters in Knoxville and Gainesville. Florida — Aaron Philo or Tramell Jones? …

- As we have been reporting, there is a lag between when a player files to go into the portal and when his name actually appears. The lag is typically two business days. So while the portal officially closed to outgoing players at 11:59pm last night, there still could be some uncertainty surrounding a few current Longhorns. - One of those players you can cross off your concern list is freshman defensive end Justus Terry. Terry is staying at Texas for the 2026 season. Terry was one of only a few Longhorns who had not made a final decision as of late yesterday. But he re-signed with the Longhorns. - We are told that at least one Longhorn has filled out the paperwo…

Texas Men's Portal Thread: Week 2 The Texas staff heads into week 2 of portal combat in a terrific spot. After reeling in the top target at lead guard and four man, the staff is now in best remaining fits at positions of remaining need or possible need. Texas has four starters next year in Isaiah Johnson, Austin Goosby, David Punch and Matas Vokietaitis. And they have key role players off the bench in Bo Ogden and John Clark, plus 7-foot smaller role player Lewis Obiorah. With that defined, OTF takes a look at what are the needs remaining. Projected starters: Isaiah Johnson, lead guard/PG, 6-1, sophomore (16.9 ppg, 2.9 rebounds, 3.0 assists at Colorado)…

We'll use this thread to track all portal news that pertains to Texas baseball. I'll start with the news I broke yesterday: Texas landed a commitment from Penn pitcher Eli Trop. The 6-foot-4, 225-pound RHP has one year of eligibility remaining. Trop has a 3.07 career ERA, along with 82 strikeouts during those three years. I know some outlets reported this happened a couple of weeks ago, but Trop originally committed in the fall, as Ivy Leagues don’t allow a fifth year. So he entered his name into the portal in October. We've sat on it until he was okay with us going public with it after the coaching change.

EDIT: Coleman is now slated to visit Texas tonight and tomorrow. Also expected to visit Texas A&M and Alabama. ** Auburn wide receiver Cam Coleman is a major target for the Longhorns. Coleman, a Phenix City, Ala. native, caught 56 passes for 708 yards and five TDs this past season for an Auburn offense that struggled most of the year. He’s considered the no. 1 prospect in the portal overall. Coleman, who is 6-3, 200+ pounds, is said to be heavily considering Texas, Texas A&M and Alabama. Coleman will likely visit all three schools before making a decision. Texas, of course, has a major need at the position with two of its top fou…

The Longhorns baseball season came to an abrupt end on Sunday afternoon following a 10-2 loss to Louisiana. Despite beating the Ragin Cajuns on Friday with relative ease, Texas turned into Jekyll and Hyde yet again and looked like a completely different team. Maybe it was due to a post-Texas A&M hangover like a couple of players mentioned in the post-game press conference. Maybe it wasn't. We'll never know, but it's something Horns fans have grown accustomed to over the course of a season that was filled with plenty of questions and little answers. One question that was asked the most over the majority of the season was what will become of Texas Head Coach David…

College Basketball Portal Thread: Texas already at work When Sean Miller was hired last year on March 24, it was the same day the transfer portal opened. So Miller was hiring a staff, evaluating the Texas roster fully which included conversations with players to see who could fit, dealing with the continued upward movement in NIL spending across the sport and thus working from behind on building a roster for 2025-26 in a short window of time. Fast forward 368 days, and Miller and staff just wrapped up a Sweet 16 appearance in year one, a very solid high school class signed and on the way, and a year to prepare for April Madness (OTF's new name for the basketball tran…

This will be the final day players can be entered into the transfer portal. One big name has already come up. Ole Miss defensive end Princewill Umanmielen, who recorded nine sacks last year, has entered the portal. It’s believed he is likely to head to LSU but Texas will at least throw its hat in the ring. ** Watch for offensive linemen today. That’s almost certainly what Texas is hoping for. ** Lots of post-season lists are being published. For example, the final AP Poll was released and the Horns came in at no. 12. The results of that poll are ridiculous. I think voters made their mind up about Texas after the Georgia ga…
