Jeff Howe

As of now, likely one of Crossland, Walls or Winter.

Cole Selvig (Minnesota), another former Longhorn, goes to the Marlins in the sixth round.

Former Longhorn Will Gasparino (UCLA) goes to the Phillies in the fifth round (No. 161 overall).

You're right. I don't know what I was thinking. My bad.

The deadline is 4 p.m. on July 27. We should know something before then.

Yeah, it's not a lost cause for Texas. Peterson has a pretty significant asking price. We'll see what the Astros do.

It's a worthwhile gamble for the Astros. Unless there's a rule I'm unaware of regarding competitive balance picks, the Astros will get the pick back in 2027 if Peterson doesn't sign. So either they sign him, or they get the pick back (which they only got in the first place because Framber Valdez signed with the Tigers in free agency) next year.

For those wondering why they took the Texas Tech outfielder in the first round, this is why. You save on your first-round pick's bonus so you can move some of your bonus pool money down the line. It would be a pretty significant blow if Texas loses Peterson.

Former Longhorn Dee Kennedy, who transferred to Kansas State, just went in the fourth round (No. 114 overall) to the Cardinals.

Out of the draft.

Two reasons: 1. You want as much leverage as possible when negotiating your contract/signing bonus.\ 2. If something unexpected happens, you've got another option.

I merged two other threads to form the official OTF sports card and memorabilia thread

Criminally underrated movie!

@Rod Babers was one of the first people to jump on the Leonard Moore bandwagon. That was a great evaluation by Marcus Freeman's staff.

@Blake Munroe reported it late in the week, but this has been the expectation internally at Texas with Emerson. The staff knew he wasn't making it to campus, barring something completely unexpected.

That'll be the second time in three years that the Rays have taken a top Texas signee in the first round of the draft. They took Theo Gillen with the 18th pick in 2024.

I know. It's still ridiculous.

The top 20 is made up entirely of the SEC and the Big Ten. That speaks volumes about the separation between those two conferences and everybody else.

Sean Miller had a fine gig at Xavier. He wouldn't have taken the Texas job unless he felt he had the resources to build something special. That Texas properly adjusted to a transfer portal market in which the price tags were significantly higher than expected, while also keeping Matas, is impressive, to say the least.

This is the most asinine broadcast schedule ever. Why do we need 30 minutes of banter before the first pick?

Two drafts that don’t get talked about enough are the ones 1987 and 2009. Four Hall of Fame players (David Robinson, Reggie Miller, Scottie Pippen and Šarūnas Marčiulionis) in the ‘87 draft. If not for injury and tragedy, Kevin Johnson and Reggie Lewis might’ve joined them. Steph Curry ended up being the prize of the ‘09 draft, but you’ve also got James Harden, Blake Griffin (he’ll be in the Hall of Fame even though his body didn’t allow him to sustain a peak like Steph and Harden had) and Demar Derozan, who will have Hall of Fame numbers when he’s done.

Has anyone gone to any good card shows lately? It seems like the ones in the Austin area of late have been mostly TCG, not so much for the sports card crowd.
