Ranking the 2025 Position Rooms (Thursday AM)
Hey I just posted the info from PFF, I don't have a doggie in the fight. Looking at the QB position it seems to me PFF puts a lot of emphasis on depth and recruiting ranking. Bama, OSU and us all are similar at QB in that we all have 5* newbies we have high hopes for, so why are Bama and OSU ranked slightly ahead of us? In their write up of QB units PFF mentions Bama has TWO 5* guys (even though Russell is a frosh and Simpson hasn't shown much) plus a 4*, and OSU also has two 5's and a 4. Texas? Just one 5* (even though he has played a lot more snaps than the other returning guys and has a higher PFF rating) and two 4's. So I'm interpreting it like PFF puts emphasis on depth (even if unproven), and perhaps too much emphasis on recruiting ranks. For sure I'd rather have Arch over Sayin and Simpson. At RB what PFF sees is a returning thousand yard rusher, a former 5* # 1 RB, two top 10 four stars (Simon and Gibson) and another 4*. Pretty impressive group on paper. What you (and most Texas fans probably) see is Wisner, then a former 5* with a serious injury who may not contribute for months, a 4* (Clark) who is also coming off a serious injury, Gibson who had fumbling issues last year plus two freshmen. You see it as the worst unit on the team; PFF sees it as the third best on the team and the nation ... we'll see. Personally I think our OL has the most unknowns, and I understand why it's PFF's lowest rated unit, after losing four starters.

Dia Bell is the No. 1 QB in the ESPN300 after winning Elite 11 MVP
Rivals lost a lot of credibility a few years back when TJ Shanahan was their # 1 player in Texas, I think # 1 IOL player in the nation and a borderline 5* while ALL the other services had him much lower. Went to A&M, not sure if he started but transferred out. I think not long after this much ridiculed assessment On3 and 247 changed their Composite rankings to lower the % given to Rivals. Hard to take them seriously.

Malakai Lee (12:15pm CST)
Some people are probably overreacting to the twitter videos of Ojo getting blitzed/steamrolled by Wesley, Kreul and Ford last weekend. It wasn't pretty

Tight end Kaden Prothro Sets Decisions Date
Honestly, never heard of them before Beau was offered by Texas. But I could say the same thing about Christian Clark and OT Aaron Thomas, who both went to the local high school a mile away from me ... never heard of them until Texas was mentioned. Heck I didn't even know who Brock Purdy was until after he played against us at Iowa State (he was from Gilbert, about 20 miles of urban sprawl from me). Arizona produces the occasional excellent player (Bijan, Kelee Ringo, Mark Andrews come to mind ... QBs Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler are in the NFL now, Dylan Raiola played a year at one of the Chandler schools) but the 2026 class has zero four stars (247) or three four stars (247 Composite) this year and other than the three guys I remember Texas offering (CB Hamiel, Thomas and Jandreau) I don't recognize anyone else.

Duh, that's on me ... I usually catch a joke but must have been asleep on this one.

Only makes sense if he goes to a non-SEC school bro 🙂

Durant to the Rockets
If only the Suns could have tossed in oft-injured Bradley Beal and his two year $110,000,000 no-trade contract (take him for free!) as part of the deal ...

Hi
I would gladly take that fivesome

Hi
I thought it was 5 before VC's announcement, so if the X3 are all new that puts us at 7. This would actually make sense (or at least possible 🙂 ) given who has been in the last two weeks Or perhaps wishful thinking on my part ... only Gerry knows for sure and he ain't talking

Wisconsin sues Miami for tampering
Waiting for the Title IX suits to drop when/if universities allocate 95% or more of the $20.5 million to men's sports - that will be another bonanza for the lawyers

2027 Arizona RB on Campus Thursday
Two hour drive from my house to Flagstaff. I'd bet I've driven it 50 times, headed to the Grand Canyon or Moab or to ski outside Flag at Snowbowl in the winter. Every summer when it gets over 110 F here in the Valley of the Sun the folks in higher, cooler elevations (Payson, Sedona, Prescott, Flagstaff) start smirking and throwing shade our way 🙂 Three of my neighbors have cabins or condos in/near Flag - they leave Phoenix in May and come back in October, lucky dogs.

2027 Arizona RB on Campus Thursday
Glad he's at someplace cool during our heat spell (also known as Arizona summer) ... it's 114 F here today in Chandler. I live about 1.5 miles from the Chandler school district - in Christian Clark's district - and the gym I use is clogged with kids rocking the "Wolves" workout gear in the summer.

2022 recruiting class
Now compare our class to the # 1 2022 A&M class, the GOAT class - eight 5* recruits, I think 5 of them DL or EDGE. ONE guy stuck it out and was drafted from A&M (Stewart). Their other 2 draft picks were a transfer from Purdue and a 4th year guy. Some of the 2022 guys who transferred out did get drafted (Nolen the most obvious), but we had 3x more guys drafted out of that class than they did. Look at their attrition rate, pretty astounding.

Hey guys, those big bucks from advertisers help keep the subscription costs very very low here. For what we get in quality reporting a few ads are tolerable to me at least.

Missouri Tabs $31 Million in NIL Spending
$31 million just doesn't buy you much these days in college sports, if Missouri's results are any indication 🙂 Now in my day that much money would have definitely done the trick ...

June 13-15 Weekend Official Visit Thread
Close to half of all five star recruits aren't even drafted into the NFL and some of those drafted are taken in the later rounds, where the guaranteed money is relatively paltry. What is Quinn's deal with the Dolphins worth? I can remember a couple of # 1 overall recruits who didn't even make it to the league. Once an NIL deal goes much over say $2 million you're talking about real money.

77 Days Until Kickoff In Columbus! — Who is your favorite No. 77?
In 1977 I was in grad school at Texas and waiting for a windshield replacement at the Sears on Hancock. Someone had driven a golf ball thru my windshield as I was driving past the golf course across the street (I guarantee THAT gets your attention when you are driving 35 mph; I ducked and thought I was being shot at). At the Sears auto repair shop Brad Shearer walks in. I thought I'd go over, maybe introduce myself and thank him for coming to Texas to play football (this was the year we were undefeated in the regular season, Earl won the Heisman, Fred won Coach of the Year and Brad won the Outland Trophy). As I approached him he looked my way, his eyes got narrow and he kind of growled. I changed my mind and left him alone 🙂 He was intimidating just standing there in the auto repair lobby. Favorite between Brad and Kenneth Sims? Can't decide, I'm declaring co-champs for # 77. I just wish they had gone on to strong pro careers. Brad was slowed by injuries and Ken derailed by a drug problem.

Portaled to Georgia after a suspension-filled season at A&M, sorta made it thru spring ball in Athens but was off the team and out of football by July.

Panini did Christian Jones wrong on his rookie card
# 66 on 2024 roster was Jackson Barton, who didn't last long ... here's his mug shot - yeah, Christian should definitely sue someone for damages!

Panini did Christian Jones wrong on his rookie card
It's that Arizona sun Jeff, tends to bleach things out, even skin tones - 112 F here already here in Phoenix (I live about 2.5 miles from the Cards' practice field), and this is what happens when you are out at practice in the sun too long.
