This isn't over, but the wheels really fell off this team a few weeks ago. #1 team in the country collapsing with 5-9 finish to the season if we don't have a huge comeback tonight.

This team's problem is obvious. It isn't the lack of hitting in the lower parts of the lineup. It isn't the taking first strikes. It's having way too many players sporting 70's porn star mustaches.

Big risk here. Criminal defense attorneys almost always try to dissuade clients from filing civil litigation while the criminal process is ongoing. Filing a civil defamation suit after being arrested on a criminal charge carries real consequences in both forums. State prosecutors and the complainant's attorneys have to be loving this and trying to get him deposed ASAP. There is no 5th Amendment privilege in a civil case, so he has to face questions about damn near everything. Taking the 5th on anything will bite him in the ass in the civil case. Any answer given can later be used against him in the criminal case. I can't believe he filed this lawsuit. Except . . . he filed in federal court. Maybe he (or his legal team) hopes for a diversity fight before any depositions can be scheduled.

I don't see how anything I said can be interpreted into a suggestion that I think Vokeitaitis is some kind of recruiting miss. My intro was "I'm happy for this pick up," and my conclusion was "could be awesome, but don't give up on him if he appears to be something less than what you hoped in his first year here." I just don't think anyone should expect a 30 mpg, 20 ppg, and 10 rbg guy in year one in the SEC, but if we add Traore, then they will split the time, and that will work well for us. We will definitely have upgraded in the middle with those additions.

I'm happy for this pick up, but I'm not over the moon about it. He's a true freshman, so there is plenty of room for improvement, but he's not a plus shot blocker, a guy with big offensive range, or a guy you can expect to beat a guy of similar size and strength on the block. He is someone who seems to understand the game very well for his age, and he is terrific at positioning. Check out his transfer portal highlight vid, and you will see what I mean. There is nothing there that wows you with his athleticism, but it is a terrific exposition of understanding how to get into position to score. Give this guy 3 years of S&C training, and he could be awesome, but don't give up on him if he appears to be something less than what you hoped in his first year here.

McMillan is a very good coach. If you saw the inbound play he ran with the two guys running around for the first guy to get open on an elevator screen against Kansas, then you would recognize this guy can coach. This is brilliant stuff. I doubt A&M donors will get fully behind this hire, but if they do, then this could prove to be a very good hire. Of course, if he gets A&M to the Sweet Sixteen in the next three years, then he's gone, because let's admit it . . . It's College Station.

Yes and no. 44 PPG is not a fair picture when you consider the bench players numbers aren't included, Pope, Mark, and Weaver (when playing) were not primary scoring options for us last year, and Swain was third in fga on Xavier. Give each a maturation year and a bigger role in the offense, and you might see some big jumps in offensive production. Heide was on a Purdue team that ran an offense that was Kaufman-Renn/Smith/Loyer/or get the f out of the way. We could maybe use a big time scorer, but I'm more a lot more concerned about getting someone to a) help us on the boards and protect the rim, and b) get in the paint to disrupt the defense to create openings for the rest of the offense.
