Texas forward Camden Heide will enter the transfer portal

Texas forward Camden Heide is the program's first unexpected departure to the NCAA transfer portal.

Jonathan Giovny of Draft Express first reported Heide's intent to enter the portal on Thursday. On Texas Football expected Heide to be a part of Sean Miller's club for the 2026-27 season, which will be Heide's last in college basketball after playing two seasons at Purdue before joining the Longhorns for the 2025-26 campaign.

After playing in 75 career games for the Boilermakers, Heide saw action in 35 games for Texas. As a Longhorn, Heide set career-high marks for games started (29), scoring (5.9 points per game), assists (23), steals (15), 3-pointers made (49) and 3-point percentage (45.4).

Heide made one of the most memorable plays of the season, hitting a 3-pointer from the corner with 14.7 seconds left in regulation to help Texas secure a 74-68 NCAA Tournament win over Gonzaga. The Longhorns finished the season in the Sweet 16, dropping a 79-77 decision to Purdue, with Heide scoring three points and grabbing five rebounds in 24 minutes.

With Heide gone and Nic Codie both entering the transfer portal, Matas Vokietaitis is the only experienced frontcourt player returning to Texas for Miller's second season. John Clark and Lewis Obiorah are expected to return after both big men redshirted this past season.

Before Heide's departure was known, sources told OTF that the power forward position is one the Longhorns were looking to upgrade with a transfer portal acquisition.

    But Gerry, what am I paying for if I don’t get all the deeeeeeets…. First the ladies program and now this. Please burn your sources to assuage my curiosities.

    I absolutely love it.   Also why? I mean Miller wants to upgrade the roster. He was hired to win.

    very rarely will we see many players “stick around” for multiple years with money thrown around at them from another school or us throwing money at their replacement. That’s just the way the game is now a days.

    Texas did want him back, but had to be at right price. He's a quality role player in CBK for a good team.

    Why not stay? It has to be exhausting moving from school to school year in and year out. The grass isn't always greener.

    45% doesn’t mean much when you only have three attempts/game. 
     

    I appreciate the effort he put into the program and hope he does well at his next stop.

    Cam probably wanted way more than he was worth. Yeah.. great shot kid.. but you couldn't dribble a spider drill if your life depended on it. He was a liability on O unless he was screening or shooting and his defense was up and down. His game would have to grow exponentially for me to be worried about him hitting the portal. That's just me though. Not a big loss to me.

    When your a role player and will never sniff even the euro leagues, NIL is your ticket to getting ahead in life. Spitballing the #'s here, but if TX wants you to stick around for $250K and your agent says we can get you + $100K you go.

    Agree 100%. But what if the agent then asked for around 1 mill? Wild times in the portal!!!

    That’s wild!  But if the ask for Cam is around $1 mil, what can we really hope to see as a replacement level?  Scouting the lowest levels for depth is going to have to be at its best for Ballers on a Budget!
