Oklahoma now formally investigating Mateer Gambling Accusations - Odds he plays this season?

Featured Replies

If he gambled on any college game in any sport he will suspend. Don’t forget the new enforcement arm has subpoena power.

I doubt it's anything serious but they'd be stupid not to investigate, in case it bites them in the ass later. They had better hope that he does play for them, he gives them the best hope out of their QB's on roster.

2 different things here. Very low probability of anything happening. 101% was hilarious.

If he actually gambled and there’s objective proof, he has to go. It doesn’t matter if he actively shaved points or anything else. He opened the possibility of it. It’s still a nefarious world. If you don’t preserve that part of the game, bring in Vince McMahon. We don’t get to pick and choose how we feel about the rules. We enforce them. If they no longer make sense, we legally modify them, or stop having them.

It surprises me how many people want to inject their feelings, beliefs, or gut on rules.

Agree with this take.

Screwdriver, but we're probably splitting hairs (better than skull).

To be fair to both of us, Dusty D was involved in so many assaults at OU and after OU, it's easy to conflate the assaulting instrument.😎

Also, great job by Jim Nagy's office in vetting and advising athletes.  It's 2025.  This shouldn't have been revealed on twitter two weeks before their opener.

I could not possibly disagree with you more.

When athletes gamble then organized crime infiltrates the sport.  The Integrity of college football is at stake.

Pete Rose should never be in the Baseball Hall of Fame and Mateer should get punished to the fullest extent of the rules if he indeed did gamble on college football while he was playing.

A venmo bet between friends is a bit different.

As far as baseball HoF, not only should Pete Rose be in, but Barry Bonds as well. 😉

Mateer is a good player. I’m a Boise State fan so I watched him some as Washington St played BSU. BSU had a good D, but they let Mateer throw for 350+. However he ran 20 times for just 28 yards.
I think Texas will make him beat them with his arm in the same way, but I don’t think he will enjoy nearly the success. Plus WSU had a better receiver than anything OU will trot out this year, Kyle Williams

I posted a thread awhile back mapping every Mateer throw against teams that were .500 or better. It tells a lot of his story, that's for sure. He was pretty dang bad on anything 20+ yards, but does a lot of good stuff too.

Omg....I am going to throw rotten fruit and vegetables at my TV every time you come on during coffee and football. That'll learn you.

Why?  Do different opinions offend you?

How do you think criminal figures get control of athletes?

HAH not sure how you thought that offended me, just thought it was such a terrible take that it had to be sarcasm

A venmo from 3 years ago on a game he didn't play in while at a different school shouldn't affect games he plays in 3 years later

Also, yes, Pete Rose AND Barry Bonds should be in the hall of fame
