Texas Lands Shortstop Out Of Portal (Monday 11:55 AM)

We hinted that good news was on the way regarding the Longhorns' middle infield.

Becerra's commitment addresses a significant position of need in 2026.  With Becerra, Texas isn't restricted to seeing if Ethan Mendoza can transition to shortstop or seeing if Adrian Rodriguez can play there.

I am a bit worried about his fielding percentage- .935.  He low in Ks, but also low in BBs.

It's a concern, but I don't think the staff would've pursued him if they felt they had a better shortstop option on the roster.

He has a 90% overall in-zone contact rate, including 94% against fastballs.

So he doesn’t watch fastballs down the pipe?

This does not excite me. He's a singles hitter who doesn't draw many walks. He'd better be Vizquel with the leather.

I'll hope for the best, but I'm not enthused.

Oh we know darn well A Rod has no business there. 😂

Maybe he lost a lot of balls in the lights.

Good to know, I'll pass it along to Schloss.

Puts the ball in play.

Putting the ball in play doesn’t inherently make a player valuable. It depends on what happens when the ball is in play.

Especially considering the dude was a backup plan

Why even have message boards with discussion?

It’s ok to admit the realism that Texas did not have a SS on the roster. Now they do. Is he going to be All-SEC? Probably not. But does he provide much-needed depth? Yes.

Jalen Flores going pro? I guess I’m behind

I believe so to save face because he's actually pretty bad.

He was bad down the stretch, but it doesn’t bode well that they’re bringing in Temu Flores to replace him.
