Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian is back in front of the local media Monday morning, discussing the Longhorns’ spring practice through nine sessions so far. 

The Longhorns were active on Saturday, going through a live scrimmage-like portion of practice in front of a number of big time recruits.

Former NFL K Martin Gramatica and his son, Gaston, just walked by the media space. 

Gaston is on an unofficial visit to Texas and has an OV set for June 13.

2026 CB Samari Matthews and family are still on campus. Taking in their second spring practice of the weekend before departing back to NC. 

On Saturday’s practice.

”I thought it was a really physical practice.,. Collectively it was a physical proactive.”

 

Sarkisian says CB Warren Roberson has really started to show up on the defensive side of the ball.

“I thought Jelani McDonald showed some really good things.”

Sarkisian mentions Cole Brevard and Hero Kanu as solid players up front. 
 

“we are getting the best version of Brad Spence right now, too.”

Sarkisian singled out TE Emaree Winston as someone making the most of his opportunities as spring continues  

“Parker Livingstone continues to play really well for us.”

Brandon Baker received some mentioned as well. 

“One thing that Anthony has proven over his two years is his playmaking ability.” Says Sark. Mentions the turnovers, INT, forced fumbles, etc. 

Sarkisian points to NFL Draft success and proof of development as a reason why Texas has been able to hold onto young talented players on roster who have not yet seen a lot of time on the field. 

 

 

Sarkisian says Michael Kern and Jack Bouwmeester are “bombing” the ball right now in practice. 

Sarkisian adds high praise for Emaree Winston. Says he’s right under 250 pounds, is smooth in his breaks and has good ball skills.

Sark says he spoke to Kirby Smart on the phone recently. Georgia has 31 newcomers this spring taking in their first practices with the program. 
 

Texas has 27 currently. 

Going back to Arch’s recruitment, Sarkisian says he talked a couple of times with Archie Manning, who he called the best texted he’s ever been around,

Sarkisian says Neal Brown has been “an awesome addition” to the staff. 

mentions having more ‘head coach eyes’ is huge for him to find out more about his team.

Sarkisian says former Chicago Bears QB coach Kerry Joseph is working with the defensive staff to get extra ideas on tendency and what an offense might do in certain situations.

Did Kirby whine about an officiating call?  That’s all I see him do.  Well mostly all.
