Texas is looking for one more DL (disruptive 3/5) in the portal this spring

Now the tutors gotta get him caught up on 11 missed class days🤣. JK but today was the add deadline so awesome get.🤘

Dang, we'd be sitting pretty if that UCF DT didn't settle for Tech immediately. Need to lure someone that level in for the spring.

Ohio State transfer DL Hero Kanu has committed to Texas.

Kanu, 6-5 and 305 pounds, has two years of eligibility remaining.

Why did he transfer out of Ohio State?

Where does he rank on the depth chart?

To be determined, probably 3 tech

Really need Brevard to take a step up in his final year. It’s him or no one at Nose.

The amount of money these schools spend on tutors is astronomical.  If he needs it and they can't help him then it could be a tough semester.  Hopefully they enroll him with a minimum load and ease him in- even if he is a good student.

I was on the faculty at Tulane Medical School years ago and attended some of the university wide faculty senate meetings and got to see some of the inner workings of the athletics department budget, as well as the ongoing monitoring of the GPAs of each sport.  I was surprised at the tutoring budget, but not surprised at the grades of some of the the various athletic teams.  When I was a senior in college I was the teaching assistant for an anatomy and physiology class for P.E. majors (a lot of athletes), pre-nursing, etc.  I ran the lab portion and administered and graded the tests.  I had a number of football players in that lab, including the quarterback, and he was the only one of them that passed the lab.  His final lab grade was just a little over 70.  I guess that is why he was the quarterback.🤣  He did go on to play in the NFL for a few years and hung around because he was a pretty good overall athlete.

Great get. Would like 1 more DT, then an experience receiver and lineman in the Spring. This was the biggest need coming into the offseason and Sark crushed it. That defensive front, as an entire grouping, is a wagon. Couple that with a really good secondary and the defense is sitting pretty going into next year. Still concerned about the offense, I can't sugarcoat it.

I assume Kanu is available to begin winter conditioning and spring workouts? Will all other additions we may get moving forward be post spring?

If we had grabbed him, then got Kanu, we'd be 100% set for the season. Especially you add in January who is expected to be a bigger contributor this year and we hope Hills can take that leap, like Baker wants him to. Then you add in the very talented 3 Fr? The room is looking great under Baker, considering it was left pretty bare for him and then we lost a lot of attrition in the portal.
