Ewers

Featured Replies

I said this in the Monday thread, but some of the problems we're seeing on offense would vanish if we had a QB who could better operate within the pocket, beat you with his legs, and throw the ball downfield.

We are reduced to running an offense that got us 15 points against UGA and 27 against Vandy. It's just not sustainable.

I don’t think that there’s any question that this team has a lower ceiling with Ewers at QB. I 100% hope the best for the young man. I hope he proves me wrong. He has played better today, stats are be

  • I've never been so glad to be wrong! Hope we keep this up!

  • Aggies will bring pressure. Ewers can’t handle it.

IDK how much you watch football is a QB driven game in the year 2024.

IDK how much you watch football either. The problems on the offense aren't all on Quinn. FACT. No need to insult me by questioning how much football I watch. Be better. How much football does CJ watch? We seem to agree.

This will get us killed by good defenses.

That’s crazy talk. No objective person can look at the now compressed playbook, continuous pocket awareness issues, and missed reads throughout the game and say he played well. Better than last week isn’t well. For me, this lowers your credibility regarding football observations.

I root for all the players. Quinn simply isn’t playing good enough as a 3rd year player in this system.

Quinn didn't miss reads and wasn't poor in the pocket on Saturday. I would not attribute any of the sacks to Quinn holding the ball and missing a read. You could say that about the Georgia game, not this Vandy game. What killed the second half was that we had so many penalties on offense.

Thoughts?

More about the game plan than the QB IMHO. These plays are called for him. They work because we have more speed than everyone not named Georgia and a couple of others. Quinn missed 007 but penalties were a much bigger issue than Quinn was. How many penalties did Quinn get? Oh, that's right, none.

It’s both. QE made some electric throws no doubt.  He made some hurp a derp plays ( i.e. giving up short fields again) not moving around, but he was better.  Abysmal at Georgia.  Vandy doesn’t have the elite defense we will see in the playoffs, or maybe even the end of the year.  He needs to get out of his funk and play better. Vandy ain’t the measuring stick for sure.  QE has the higher floor right now because of his experience and that is probably why Sark is sticking with him.  But if that floor dips below Arch’s and Sark thinks we can’t do worse, there would be a change (like Georgia).  Arch’s ceiling is higher. With the same amount of time and experience I think he would be lighting people up and this team would be complete, but we don’t live in the reality, he hasn’t played enough snaps yet to be that guy and we need to win now with this defense.  So Quinn needs to get better for the time being.  I think he can get back to his first of the year ability.  We’ve seen flashes.  IMHO

You do realize this is for the entire season and not just Vandy, right? Per your statement you clearly missed that key detail.

Sark is the OC and calls the plays, tons of screens. I didn't miss any key detail.

Why did Vandy play 2 high cover?   🤷🏻‍♂️

They rolled into a cover 3 look sometimes post snap, but I do see what you're saying cause they stayed in 2 high a lot as well. I think they might present that 2 high look pre-snap to deter those throws cause they know Quinn won't adjust when they change post, but obviously that's just a guess. Quinn definitely did what was asked of him & operated within the offense, but idk I just expect more from a 3rd year qb in sark's system. Of course what I expect doesn't matter AT ALL (lol), but I think most of the consternation around QB rn is not about what he did against Vandy, but how that translates to our bigger opponents.

It's the bye week. Let the coaches do what they get paid to do and hope QE (along with the OL) comes back stronger against Florida.

Doom and gloom as usual. Level headed takes are rare.

We are at our expected destination on our trip and people are complaining because we took bumpy backroads instead of a smooth interstate.

Sark calls plays that take what the defense is giving him. Defenses know we have a lot of WR speed so they are willing to give up the short passes to prevent the deeper passes. It says more about Sark and the WRs than QE3.

I think some people (ahem) were hoping for an LSU 2019 kind of offense, with Ewers looking like Joe Burrow. That has not happened, and he has been somewhere between bad and meh the last few weeks. Combine that with who is waiting in the wings and here we are.

We may be where we thought we would be as a team. But Quinn isn't where he, you, me, or anyone thought he'd be.

We are 7-1 that’s were we all thought we would be.

Is Quinn a number 1 pick for his position? Is Quinn a Heisman contender? No Quinn isn't where we thought he'd be. As I said in that post we are where we are as a team and it's not because of Quinn.

Yes we are were we are because of a team effort. Quinn is the leader of that team . You need to get over your unnecessary criticism of the leader of the Longhorns. You & people like you can ruin our recruiting efforts & demoralize our team . Are you a troll? Seriously!

According to you Quinn is a one man team I guess. Give it up. Anyone that can see clearly, knows Quinn is struggling and the team is 7-1 despite his poor play.
