Is it more important in recruiting to have a top 5 class regardless of position  or a top 10 class that fills your needs?  

Has been a poor recruiting class in terms of positions of need. Thank god for the portal

Filling needs is the most important thing. Obviously you want the highest ranked players at your positions of need which will make your class ranked higher… but if you need DT’s and CB’s for example, and you sign a bunch of offensive players it doesn’t solve your issue.

Filling needs always comes first IMO. However, the portal makes it such that you have two opportunities to do that, not just via high school recruiting.
