A big move in the high school ranks. Lovejoy has officially announced the hiring of Todd Dodge.

Dodge was recently at Austin Westlake where he helped establish the Chaps as one of the state's best programs in the state.

Now one has to wonder why he resigned from the powerhouse he built at Westlake?

He was retired for a bit. But like most great coaches, tough to stay away from the game.

I seem to recall he wanted to move closer to Riley and grandkids (I think he has grandchildren). Now, he can resume coaching and still be near family in DFW.

(Yes, three grandchildren.)

I am rather surprised that Sarkisian did not offer him the Texas High School liason position.

I think that’s a younger man’s job these days.

But Todd was the Texas QB when I was in my thirties .... oh never mind then .

He's getting his retirement plus what hes making from Lovejoy. Only time in education where someone makes decent money. You have to retire, sit out a year and then you come back and collect both.

Todd Dodge was the coach at my HS for a year or two, but the admin wouldn't give him the funding he needed, so he left for SLC. What a bunch of dumbasses at CFB ISD.

Because he wanted to be closer to family and his grandchildren. Even now coaching at Lovejoy, he still won't be that far away. Plus it's hard for these guys to give it up. Look at coach Danaher, he was coaching well into his 70's.

I think he just got the itch again and Lovejoy scratched it for him.

I'm one of those guys who doesn't think people have to explain themselves to anyone if they want to un-retire. My dad did it several times through the years for special projects. Old friends called and off he went.

There's no need to label retirement as the end. It can just be putting a pause on your career these days. It's all up to the individual and what they want out of life.

@CJ Vogel That's your alma mater correct? Great hire for Lovejoy!

Sure is! Really excited for the fellas to get to play for Coach Dodge. Great replacement for Coach Ross who was a brilliant mind in his own right.

Todd vs. Riley  in Dodge Bowl will be fun

It would be part two. Todd beat Riley in the Ship.
