We had a quarterback a number of years back that also threw a perfect game for the Horns. He was instrumental in our making 3 straight CWS's. Not to mention, helped us win our second natty in football.

IMHO, I think we should make sure Jonah Williams plays both sports if he's of a mind to do so.

    His son helped us win a CWS too. I often wonder if another family had a more cross-generational on-field impact than the Street Family. I can't think of another father-son pair that compares in UT history.

    He's not going to make much of a difference in 2026 in football. That's our best chance to win it all with Arch. It's better for him personally and Texas to concentrate on baseball. He can seriously contribute to a title there.

    This goes back aways but Ernie Koy Sr.  was a really good athlete at Texas and so were his sons Ernie,  Ted and I think maybe one of their sons.

    James Street wasn't the only one, though.

    Bobby Layne threw two no-hitters at Texas, won 35 games, was a four-time All-SWC selection and led the Longhorns to three SWC titles.

    On the national TV broadcast of the game at #2 Arkansas on ABC, the late Chris Schenkel called him "Jimmy Street," and made him sound like a junior high kid. He was an outstanding Senior QB and Pitcher for the University of Texas.

    Some media types called him James "Slick" Street because of his ball handling skills as UT's Wishbone QB and his super confident demeanor.

    Street played an outstanding game in Fayetteville in December, 1969, leading the #1 Longhorns to the National Championship over the Razorbacks in what was called "The Big Shootout."

    I was a high school freshman on a losing football team and although I was already a Longhorns fan, after watching that game on TV with my late father, I told him I wanted to go to Texas. Knowing I couldn't play college football at the Southwest Conference level, I just wanted to sit in the Student Section at Memorial Stadium and cheer for Texas and players like James Street.
