A week ago, I was genuinely surprised by the Longhorns’ offensive performance against Oklahoma, as were many of you probably. I thought Texas would win that game, but I didn’t foresee such an encouraging outing from the offense. Fast forward one week, and I didn’t see this unbelievably poor performance coming. One thing that will not change is who will be calling plays. Texas offers 2026 DB out of Colorado Texas cornerbacks coach Mark Orphey extended an offer to senior riser cornerback Toray Davis (Boulder, Co./Fairview) Monday. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder was committed to UCLA until the firing of Deshaun Foster. Since de-committing September 22, Davis has picked up offers from Wisconsin, Arizona State, Indiana, Iowa and now Texas. News broke yesterday that safety Michael Taaffe had surgery on Monday on his thumb. The injury and procedure are likely to keep Taaffe out this week and possibly next, with the potential of a return for the Georgia game, according to CJ Vogel. Of course, we won’t know the plans for sure until we receive Steve Sarkisian’s injury report later this afternoon. We expect experience veteran Derrick Williams to start in place of Taaffe. The Week of Practice Ahead of Mississippi State Game The Longhorns board for Starkville Friday afternoon for what is hoping to be a bounce back performance against Mississippi State. Defensively, after seeing 89 snaps on the field in Lexington, the staff ensured a lighter workload at the beginning of the week. Texas practiced Monday, and did so without helmets. Basically a longer walk-through to try and save some energy on the legs while installing the game plan for the week. FSU commit to officially visit Texas November 1 The Texas Longhorns offered Florida State linebacker commitment Karon Maycock (Miami, Fla./Central) Thursday night. And an official visit has already been set. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound linebacker told OnTexasFootball that he has scheduled his OV to Texas for next weekend. Either they are or they aren’t. Texas is either good enough as a team to go into Starkville today and beat Mississippi State or they aren’t. Yes, Texas has been less than stellar this year. The offense is a clear work in progress that seems to have regressed more recently. Whether that’s on the O-line, the QB, or the play-caller, it’s irrelevant. The defense and special teams have largely carried the team to a 5-2 record.
