Last week, a few readers dismissed my assertion that the Texas offense had been moving in the right direction and was becoming a consistent strength of the team. That’s understandable. I wrote and said that right after a paltry 10-point performance against Georgia. Yet here we are after a 52-37 win over Arkansas, and I’ll say the same thing again this morning. And that fact - at least to me - is as clear as day. The Texas offense has emerged as the team’s better, more consistent and more reliable unit. Since the flip switched for Arch Manning late against Mississippi State, he is 99 of 152 for 1,314 yards, 11 TDs and just two INTs. That’s an average of…

Jamarion Carlton to Make Commitment Decision at 4:00 p.m. It is decision day for 2026 Temple EDGE Jamarion Carlton. There will be four hats on the table this afternoon when the Temple star announces his commitment: LSU, Texas, Baylor and Texas Tech. I believe Baylor has the higher offer on the table for now, and there has been momentum in favor of the Bears since June 20. Though, the relationship with LaAllen Clark should not be counted out. Steve Sarkisian Shoots Down Idea to Give Up Play Calling You can expect a lot of change on the offensive side of the ball for the Texas Longhorn offense in the coming weeks according to Steve Sarkisian. One thing that will not change is who will be calling plays. Texas head coach, and play caller, Steve Sarkisian was asked on Monday if he had thought at all about giving up play calling duties given the responsibilities of a head coach in games. It was quickly shot down. "That's why I got hired," Sarkisian said of his play calling abilities. "I was a really good offensive coordinator." Texas currently sits 80th in the country in points per game at …

Rumors are swirling that five-star combo guard Aaliyah Chavez (Lubbock Monterey) will take in the Texas WBB game later today at 1:00 PM. I can confirm, however, that this is NOT true. Chavez made the five-hour trek to Norman over the weekend to squeeze in one last visit to Oklahoma and I've been told that it went very well for the Sooners. Again, they're selling her on their offense and the fact that it's a great fit for her. Chavez will make her decision tomorrow afternoon at Monterey High School. That decision will be televised on ESPN. While an official time has yet to be announced, I would expect it to happen at either 1:00 or 2:00 PM central. The annou…

Some Wednesday AM Recruiting Thoughts 1. Texas has continued to battle for 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala./High), as we have said. Everything we have heard for weeks is a Bama vs. Texas decision likely with Georgia and Auburn the other OV's. And that has also been Bama having the most confidence since early May. The Longhorns are considered the competition for the Crimson Tide due in part to Ezavier and mom both truly liking the Texas program and everything it can provide. 2. Confidence remains in Austin on OTF 5-star OT John Turntine III. With that said, OTF doesn't believe he has informed the winning school of his decision ahead of the Ju…

The final day for a typical portal transfer to enroll at Texas and be eligible for spring ball was Friday. Texas could, however, try to add someone this week. From an academic standpoint, they would have to get permission from a dean. ** There has been no news on Indiana offensive guard Bray Lynch and whether or not he has elected to enter the transfer portal. IMO no news is good news… for Indiana. ** Miami linebacker Raul Aguirre entered the portal. He is a player to watch, but only IF he’s willing to compete for playing time. One item that shrinks the pool of players open to Texas that not many people realize is that some players are a…
