Initial thoughts: - The RB room is completely revamped. The familiar faces of Tre Wisner and CJ Baxter are gone. The additions of Hollywood Smothers, Raleek Brown and Derrek Cooper are evident, each bringing a slightly different skill set than the other. It's an increase in overall speed and general explosiveness. There is no doubt in my mind that the difference between this year and last year is night and day. On Wednesday, the Division I cabinet of the NCAA passed a new rule to address the "ghost transfer" issue in college sports. The new rule: "Penalizes programs that sign a transfer student-athlete, add a transfer student-athlete to a roster, or allow a transfer student-athlete to participate in athletically related activities before the student-athlete is entered into the NCAA Transfer Portal." According to Steve Sarkisian, something is rotten in college sports. For all its good, college sports needs rules that are going to be enforced. In Sark’s own words, “Something’s got to change.” In his official 15 minute Q&A at the SEC spring meetings and in front a smaller pool of reporters later, Sark espoused the need for rules above all else. Importantly, Sark said he didn’t care where those rules came from, be it the NCAA, the SEC or anywhere else. Now that the Senior Bowls have concluded, it is full steam ahead for the NFL Combine and the campus Pro Days. Texas once again has double digit players that are hopeful to hear their name announced in the upcoming NFL Draft and with the current count, I believe they will accomplish that feat.
