Where the 2025 No. 1 ranked class stands headed into the 2026 season The Texas Longhorns No. 1 ranked 2025 class is heading into year two on the Forty Acres. The class of 25 signees is down to 20 remaining in the program after five transferred out following the 2025 season. Of the 20, at least three will be starters headed into year two, and six or seven will be second team. Of the eight players listed as "depth" entering year two, there are multiple that the staff believes could be starter level players with NFL draft pick potential after another season of development. Texas won a portal recruitment Thursday afternoon with the flip of Louisville DL Jermayne Lole from Oklahoma out of the portal. Texas visits Jonah Williams Texas safeties coach and area recruiter Blake Gideon along with defensive coordinator Pete Kwiatkowski made a stop at Galveston (Texas) Ball High today to see 4-star safety Jonah Williams. Williams, 6-3 and 205 pounds, was joined at Ball High by his father for the visit with the Texas staff members. According to a source, the visit went very positive for the Longhorns and Williams. Let’s start with some really good news. I am told that Texas has been very happy with the work of Jerrick Gibson at running back. Very happy. He has stepped up and is being more and more reliable in each practice and is working to understand pass protection at the college level more and more. At this stage, we expect Gibson to have a role on this team out of the gate. Now don’t get carried away. I’m not talking about starting or being the premier back. Over in San Marcos last night, Texas State almost pulled off the biggest upset in school history. Arizona State held off the Bobcats for a 31-28 win. At one point, Texas State was up 21-7 in the second quarter, but only scored one TD the rest of the way. I mention that game because this weekend the Horns play Texas State's previous opponent, UTSA. I'm not much for the transitive properties of college football scores or stats, but Texas State beat UTSA 49-10 and amassed more than 500 yards of offense against the Roadrunners. Ewers missed on throws that he doesn’t miss on and it was arguably the worst quarter of offensive football for a Ewers-led offense that we have seen during his career.
