Race for the No. 1 recruiting class in 2026 The Texas Longhorns are squarely in the mix for the No. 1 recruiting class in the 2026 cycle after a very strong last half of July. When looking at the teams that are truly in the hunt for the top ranked class, there six teams with a realistic shot. Those schools are Georgia, USC, Texas A&M, Alabama, Texas and Ohio State. Just as the offensive line seemed to gel against Oklahoma, starting center Cole Hutson has now been labeled as “out” for the Kentucky game by Coach Steve Sarkisian. The exact injury has not been revealed but Hutson sustained it during Tuesday’s practice. It is not expected to be season-ending, but he “will miss some time”. ** Back-up Connor Robertson is expected to take over for Hutson at center with Nick Brooks remaining at left guard. Texas two-sport athlete Jonah Williams will miss the remainder of the Longhorns' 2026 baseball season after re-injuring his shoulder earlier this month. Williams will undergo surgery with the expectation that he'll be healthy in time for football season this fall. The Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek product is entering his redshirt senior season after appearing in just seven games in 2025. For his career at Brown, Hudson tallied 52 tackles and 13 pass breakups in 27 games. Entering 2025, Hudson was a Third Team Phil Steele Preseason All-Ivy selection. Texas landed a massive piece to its 2027 class on Friday afternoon as Libertyville (Ill.) tight end Brock Williams, widely viewed as one of the top tight end prospects in America, committed to the Longhorns over Georgia and Ohio State.
