One might label the Texas transfer portal class from the 2024-25 cycle as lackluster if their assumption is based on how ESPN ranked the Longhorn newcomers. Defensive tackle Maraad Watson and tight end Jack Endries are the only two transfers coming into Steve Sarkisian’s program ranked among ESPN’s top 100 portal entrants. A Freshman All-American for Syracuse last season, Watson checked in at No. 66 while Endries, a Cal transfer who recorded 56 receptions for the Golden Bears in 2024, was ranked No. 90 overall. Few team notes picked up recently: The freshmen Have spoken with a few people the last couple of weeks with spring ball having concluded. Here is what I picked up along the way. 1. Wrapping up the month of May *** There are 10 days remaining in the month of May and then the calendar flips to June, and we all know what that means. June is headlined by three separate official visit weekends, all of which consisting of nationally elite prospects set to visit the Texas Longhorns. While historically, the Texas staff uses the month of June to catapult the current recruiting class, it also serves as the return to campus for the team itself. After a two round bye, the Longhorns are now set to square off against Tennessee tomorrow at 3:00 PM (SEC Network). The fact of the matter is, Texas has one goal this tournament: Stay healthy. They already won the conference and the tournament itself doesn’t really matter. The Horns just want to walk away with zero injuries and as much rest as possible before hosting a regional. — So who will pitch tomorrow against the Volunteers? Construction for the new $70M indoor football facility has been in the works for about eight months now. No longer will the Texas Football team bus to Denius for practice at the bubble with both indoor and outdoor practice fields coming right across the street from the Longhorns locker room at Moncrief in 2026. There is some commentary out there that Texas decided against a later start time against Ohio State. That has some truth to it. However, I’m told that it was not a later start time on Saturday that was actually proffered but an entirely different game day, asking the Longhorns to play on Sunday rather than Saturday. Four-star locks in Texas official visit Texas offensive line coach Kyle Flood offered 4-star offensive tackle Grayson McKeogh (Glenside, Pa./La Salle College High) on Monday after an in-person evaluation. OnTexasFootball spoke with the 6-foot-7.5, 280-pound offensive tackle within the last hour, and MCKeogh told us that he has scheduled an official visit June 20-22. News broke yesterday that Texas declined an invitation to play Ohio State on Sunday Aug. 31 instead of Saturday Aug. 30. Texas did so for many reasons: - No guarantee of a Sunday night game next year given that it’ll be on ESPN or ABC rather than Fox. - Fox has done themselves no favors with Texas brass. Remember, Fox leveraged Texas just a couple of years ago, requiring the Horns to switch the Michigan game to Ann Arbor in 2024 as a piece of the Big 12 departure. - Short turnaround for the next week, especially early in the season. Mike White and the Texas softball team are returning to the Women’s College World Series for the third time in four years following their 6-5 victory over Clemson last night. The Horns won the best two-of-three game series after dropping the first contest on Thursday night and then winning an extra innings thriller deep into Friday evening. The final two games were a measure in resiliency for the Horns. Friday night’s game included a season-saving situation where Clemson had runners on second and third base with no outs. Texas 2025 scheduled: Ranked from easiest to toughest When looking at the Longhorns 2025 schedule, I started ranking them in my head on one of the Coffee&Football shows around a question from the chat. The main question was then how do you rank them, and by what would cause the ranking. The SEC Spring Meetings officially kick off tomorrow morning in Destin, Fla. On Texas Football will be there. Texas coach Steve Sarkisian will be speaking to the media at roughly 11am. Other Texas coaches like Sean Miller and Vic Schaeffer are also expected to be in town, as well as athletic director Chris Del Conte. Wanted to share my initial thoughts after meeting and speaking with new Texas basketball coach Sean Miller first in a smaller, semi-private setting and then from sitting front row in the larger auditorium. I think Texas found itself a basketball coach first and foremost. That is not taking a shot at anyone at guys who have come before him. But just from talking to him and the answers he gives, it's clear he's a basketball thinker and talks about how the pieces of the puzzle have to fit together for his program, from both a personnel and style of play perspective.
