Texas Clinches Berth in National Championship Series *** Mike White and Texas Softball will have a chance to defend their 2025 National Championship after a double-header victory over Tennessee on Monday. The Longhorns needed to defeat the Volunteers twice coming into the morning, and they did exactly that. Game one went in favor of the Horns by the score of 5–2, and then Texas followed up with a shutout victory to survive the elimination and advance to the championship series. A lot of people ask me why I’m so optimistic about the 2026 season. So why am I? It comes down to the players and their experience. It’s really that simple. A year ago, Texas went 10-3 and will likely have 6-7 players selected in the upcoming NFL draft. Next year at this time, I suspect that number will double. The 6-foot-2.5, 225-pounder made an April unofficial visit and June 5-7 official visit to Texas. We have reported for a while that 2026 RB Ezavier Crowell is expected on campus at the end of the month for an unofficial visit (March 27-29). Construction for the new $70M indoor football facility has been in the works for about eight months now. No longer will the Texas Football team bus to Denius for practice at the bubble with both indoor and outdoor practice fields coming right across the street from the Longhorns locker room at Moncrief in 2026. Texas DB Derek Williams Jr. Returns to Practice OnTexasFootball has been told Texas safety Derek Williams Jr. was fully suited up and on the practice field for the Longhorns Saturday for practice No. 9 of the spring. Williams tore his ACL against Oklahoma last year and rehabbing the knee throughout the winter. Before I get to the women’s blowout win in the Elite Eight last night, I wanted to mention Texas hits the practice field later this morning. It will be the 7th practice of spring ball. I wrote on Sunday that one of the bigger surprises of camp so far is true freshman cornerback Samari Matthews. The North Carolina native is coming on at a perhaps unexpected rate. Zion Williams post LSU update Lufkin (Texas) High 4-star defensive lineman Zion Williams went into last weekend's official visit to LSU with the Tigers No. 1 and Texas No. 2. The visit last weekend only strengthened the Tigers chances with the 6-4.5, 325 pounder, as one would expect. Williams remains scheduled to make an official visit to Texas June 21-23.
