Texas is 0 for its last six in recruiting. Three of those players, at one time or another, felt like Texas leans: North Shore defensive back Chace Calicut, Georgia linebacker Zavier Griffin and New Jersey defensive tackle Damari Simeon. So what happened between the two parties on the way to the altar? With each it’s a different story. Calicut was drawn to the idea of playing corner. Griffin was somewhat miffed by the idea of the Horns recruiting Tyler Atkinson allegedly and had ties to Tuscaloosa. Simeon received a better NIL offer elsewhere. But no matter the how of losing those recruits, the results - at least the current ones - remain the same. …

  2. Longhorns have opportunity to rebound this week on the trail Steve Sarkisian and staff suffered a couple of tough losses on the trail last week in 4-star++ OT Malakai Lee and 4-star++ defensive lineman James Johnson. Those are two prospects OTF expects Texas to recruit until signing day in December. That Longhorns begin the week with a class ranked anywhere from 10 to 13 with the possibility to ascend into the top 5 with some big decisions on deck. OnTexasFootball takes a look at the week ahead for the staff. Kendall Guervil ... 3. My time at the 2025 Manning Passing Academy has come to a close, and while there are plenty of takeaways I want to get into over the next 24 hours about the field of quarterbacks, how could I not start with Arch Manning? First and foremost, a year ago when I first attended the MPA, there was a solid scrum of media members. Most of the media swarm hailed from Louisiana – New Orleans, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, etc – local stations and nothing much else. That was not the case this year. Even with a pretty star-studded group of 2024 camp counselors, the number of media members was doubled. National media members made the trip to Thibodaux, as did a much larger Austi…

  4. Recruiting: Where things stand on Friday morning The Texas Longhorns currently have a recruiting class ranked around No. 10 to 12 in the country with a lot of runway remaining. There are three scheduled announcements today with the Longhorns not the favorite to win out in those. It gets very interesting Saturday and Sunday for Texas, however. OnTexasFootball remains the same, the Longhorns are very likely to sign a fifth straight top 5 recruiting class at the end of the day. Here is a look at where things stand starting the morning of June 27: June 27 announcements ... Damari Simeon, DL, Richland (N.J.) St. Aug OnTexasFootball ranking: 4-star++…

  5. Started by Bobby Burton,

Texas lost out on Ezavier Crowell last night; the Alabama native decided to stay home and play for the Crimson Tide. But life goes on. My dog still wanted to play tug of war after he ate this morning. The sun still rose in the East. And sure enough, my wife still asked me if I took out the trash and recycle last night. The same will happen multiple times over the next two weeks. Texas will likely lose more than they win. But as we’ve talked about, that’s the nature of this style of recruiting. At the end of the day, recruiting at this level is more about who you add, not about who you lose. ** I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Texas and i…

  6. Ezavier Crowell announcement thread OTF 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala./High) is set to announce his commitment at around 6pm CST today. This one is expected to be Alabama or Texas, with Auburn and Georgia rounding out the four in contention. Steve Sarkisian is personally in this recruitment, and Texas is giving it everything they have. If Crowell picks Alabama, it will be besting a completely all in effort by the Longhorns. Alabama has been considered the favorite since the spring. CJ provided a great rundown of the timeline yesterday: Schools in Contention for the four-star running back include: Georgia (May 30 O…

The Longhorns continue their pursuit of more than 15 blue chip prospects who will make their decisions over the next two- to two-and-a-half weeks. And the first one starts today at around 6pm when Alabama running back Zavier Crowell announces his school choice. In that decision, most would say the smart money expects the Crimson Tide to prevail. But Steve Sarkisian is recruiting Crowell personally. And while Crowell has strong ties to the state of Alabama, he has also been on the Longhorns’ campus just about as many times (4) as he has been on the Crimson Tide’s. ** Whatever Crowell decides, some could see this recruitment as a barometer for …

RB Ezavier Crowell. Schools in Contention for the four-star running back include: Georgia (May 30 OV) Texas (June 6 OV) Auburn (June 13 OV) Alabama (June 20 OV) Texas' Recruitment Timeline January 31, 2024 – Texas offers Crowell, becoming the 15th school to throw its hat in the ring. 10. Some Wednesday AM Recruiting Thoughts 1. Texas has continued to battle for 4-star++ running back Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, Ala./High), as we have said. Everything we have heard for weeks is a Bama vs. Texas decision likely with Georgia and Auburn the other OV's. And that has also been Bama having the most confidence since early May. The Longhorns are considered the competition for the Crimson Tide due in part to Ezavier and mom both truly liking the Texas program and everything it can provide. 2. Confidence remains in Austin on OTF 5-star OT John Turntine III. With that said, OTF doesn't believe he has informed the winning school of his decision ahead of the Ju…

Steve Spurrier never met a Manning he didn’t like to tweak. Back in the 90s, he used to tease Peyton Manning mercilessly about never beating his vaunted Florida Gators. And now it seems he’s taken on the newest Manning: Arch. In case you missed it, Spurrier was interviewed recently and said he wasn’t exactly all aboard the Arch Manning train. Spurrier asked, why, if Manning is so good, wasn’t Manning playing more instead of backing up a 7th round pick in Quinn Ewers? Well, he’s there’s an answer to that. But the fact that Spurrier asked it doesn’t make him immediately wrong. After all, it’s merely the same question many Texas fans were asking…

  13. 2026 Class Overview Texas sits today, June 24, at 15 commits in the class of 2026. How many more will the staff take in this cycle? That remains to be seen, though I can see upwards of ten more commits in the class when it is all said and done. Remember: Texas does not lose a lot from its senior class following the upcoming football season, so number may be a bit tighter than a given year. Looking at the next two weeks, commitments and surprises on the trail will highlight the flip of the calendar to July. With less than a week to go until that time, it is appropriate to look at where the class sits from a positional overview and what remains on the ho…

  14. Afternoon recruiting notes A few afternoon nuggets. Defensive line recruiting … OTF believes Texas remains in a positive spot for 4-star++ DL’s Damari Simeon and Kendall Guervil. Georgia went into the Texas visit ahead of the Longhorns, Florida and Miami for 4-star++ James Johnson. This one is probably 55-45 Georgia, but not a done deal yet for the Bulldogs. Offensive line recruiting … Confidence remains in OTF 5-star OT John Turntine and OTF 4-star++ Felix Ojo. Michigan appears to be the main comp for Texas with Turntine. Stanford and Texas A&M have less confidence. Ojo remains a Texas, Ohio State and maybe Texas Tech race. Par…

One highly ranked recruit is set to announce Thursday: Alabama running back Ezavier Crowell, who is thought to be deciding between Alabama, Texas and Georgia. Three more blue chippers on Friday: OL Malakai Lee from Honolulu. It’s a Texas, Georgia, Bama and Michigan battle. S Chace Calicut from Houston North Shore. It’s between Texas, Georgia and Michigan. DL Damari Simeon from New Jersey. Texas, Michigan, Penn State and Ohio State. I don’t want to talk about the individual recruits in this column. Instead, I just want you to step back and consider the teams Texas is recruiting against for each of these players. Alabama, Georgia, Michigan, Oh…

  16. It was quite the day for the Longhorns, as they landed two players out of the portal who will immediately make the team better. We first saw Texas get a commitment from Stanford’s Temo Becerra. While he can essentially play any infield position, he should start at shortstop. It’s worth noting that the staff feels he’s better defensively than UVA’s Eric Becker. Offensively Becerra is solid. He has a 90% overall in-zone contact rate, including 94% against fastballs. — The second commit of the day was the biggest, when Notre Dame catcher Carson Tinney announced he would be a Horn. Tinney, a Buster Posey Award Semi-Finalist, was the best catc…

  17. Kendall Guervil: Texas is Still No. 1 The weekend was hijacked by two commitments on the defensive line, first by DL Vodney Cleveland on Saturday, and then the surprise commitment of EDGE Richard Wesley on Sunday afternoon. However, one of the top prospects on the board for the Texas Longhorns reiterated their standing at the top of his recruitment Sunday afternoon with a decision looming in the next two weeks. "The visit was great, it was good to be back in Austin, Texas," Guervil said following his official visit Sunday. "Being able to see Coach Baker and Coach Mike (Baker) was truly wonderful." Coming into the visit, there was momentum and hype su…

  18. Started by Bobby Burton,

We expected Vodney Cleveland, the defensive tackle from Birmingham, to announce for the Longhorns on Saturday. He left Austin a week ago Sunday knowing that he would eventually pledge to Texas. It’s a big addition for the Horns at defensive tackle. But the commitment of Richard Wesley, the five star defensive end from Los Angeles, took us all by surprise on Sunday afternoon. We knew Wesley liked the Longhorns and his family had Texas ties, despite a prior commitment to Oregon. However, we didn’t know he was on the brink of committing. In a matter of 24 hours, Texas added two blue chip prospects to a defensive line class that could be shaping up as the …

  20. BANG! The Longhorns make a huge splash with a commitment from 2026 five-star EDGE Richard Wesley. After a previous commitment to Oregon, Wesley re-opened his recruitment earlier in the spring, and following his official visit to Texas, the Longhorns end up with the verbal pledge. Wesley reclassified from the 2027 class and fits the physical build at 6-feet-5-inches and 250 pounds. Quite the turn of events here for the Longhorns, a huge win on the trail! View full news story

  21. - The Longhorns baseball staff wrapped up visits on Friday. No visitors were hosted over the course of the weekend. - They’ll be back at it next week, with more scheduled to be in. - I’d expect more fireworks soon. - Many of you have asked why Texas isn’t hosting more pitchers out of the portal. The fact of the matter is, the staff feels good with who they have and who they’ve already grabbed. That’s not to say they won’t add another, but they’re looking for difference makers. - Speaking of, the addition of LHP Cal Higgins on Friday was a big one. Higgins posted a 1.87 ERA this past season, striking out 52 batters in 43 innings of work. More importan…

  22. Updates from Summer Conditioning *** – The team is working out four days a week with Wednesdays proving to be a lighter day off of the field from the traditional conditioning days. Majority of days are held inside of DKR for the team to work conditioning with Torre Becton and his staff. There remain days over at Denius practice fields for sand work in the sand and some light hill work. – Leadership remains strong from the Texas quarterback, Arch Manning. You will hear the cliche of Arch adopting the 2025 roster as his team but that is accurate in terms of the leadership approach being taken. – Running back CJ Baxter is working out, but remains a littl…

Obviously the Longhorns have been very active in the portal, already gaining commitments from multiple outfielders.

Tyler Atkinson texted Gerry Hamilton following Atkinson’s official visit. Here’s what he texted Gerry: “My OV to Texas was eye-opening! This could be my last visit before I make the right choice, and I really feel it was a great decision to visit there. “ “This was my 4th visit with the Longhorns outside of pretty much living in Austin the past month for training. I have made some great connections there for sure. The biggest highlight this weekend was Coach Sark! I really appreciate the fact that he took the lead on my recruitment and has been hands-on with everything. That has shown me a lot.” “I spent the majority of the time with Coach S…

  25. Biggest Takeaways from June 20th Official Visit Weekend Surprise, Surprise! You never quite know what recruiting can bring you on a day to day in 2025. That could not be emphasized more by the commitment of Sierra Canyon EDGE Richard Wesley who just wrapped up his official visit this afternoon. The lows of last weekend feel like a distance vision in the rear view mirror at the moment and that's just the beauty of the world of recruiting. Richard Wesley's commitment was not one of the outstanding "Hi's" and it was a surprising to me, at least, that a decision came as quickly as it did. The only other official visit that was scheduled by Wesley was to Oh…
