Texas women's basketball made a big splash on the recruiting trail on Thursday, landing 6-foot-7 center Jayla Forbes out of Monteverde Academy in Florida, she announced on her social media. Forbes chose the Longhorns over a long list of offers that included Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, and UCLA, among others. The newest UT pledge has long been a top target of the Texas staff's, visiting earlier this year for a multi-day stay when the Longhorns faced Kentucky. Texas received good news yesterday when Ethan Mendoza made the decision to return to school. Longhorns assistant coach Troy Tulowitzki met with Mendoza and his family yesterday at their home in Bedford and the two parties agreed it would be best for him to finish his final year of college baseball in Austin. Unfortunately for Mendoza, he will require shoulder surgery, which is set to take place this week. As far as a timetable for a return goes, that is currently up in the air. It is the fifth Director's Cup in the last six athletic seasons for Chris Del Conte and the Longhorns.
