Portal After Sunrise The Portal After Dark thread was easily one of the best and most entertaining threads I have ever been a part of in my two decades+ in this business. The OTF community is both tremendous and hilarious! With the first weekend of the portal madness 2026 now complete, OTF is turning to the week ahead in the portal with more visits to come, and decisions to be made. The January portal window officially opened at 12:01 a.m. ET January 2 and names have to be entered by 11:59 p.m. ET January16. Loins girded! Coffee maker just turned on. And away we go. Texas will host San Jose State CB Jayvion Cole for a visit Thursday he confirms with OTF. Cole tells me the trip to Austin will be his first visit since entering the portal Monday afternoon. Auburn is another team that is expected to receive a visit, though no date has been set at the moment. Cole also mentioned he is unsure if he will visit Michigan State, despite receiving an offer from the Spartans this morning. Cole saw 672 snaps last year for SJSU where he allowed 22 receptions on 48 targets for a 45.8% completion percentage. The 5-foot-11 cornerback also hauled in three interceptions and allowed just one touchdown on the season. View full news s…

Portal Decisions on the way The Texas staff added top corner on the board Bo Mascoe to the portal class Tuesday, and is expected to hear two more decisions today. OnTexasFootball provides the latest headed into the day. Christian Alliegro, Avon (Ct.) Old Farms/Wisconsin ... The top LB target for Texas was on campus at Ohio State Tuesday after visiting Texas Monday. The 6-foot-4, 245-pounder is expected to let Texas know his decision around lunchtime today, if not earlier. OTF doesn't know when he will publicly announce his decision. I'll say this about Alliegro, and have been saying it, throw any horrible portal ranking out for Alliegro. Will Musc…

Texas is still in the running for a National Championship this season, but that doesn't mean the work behind the scenes for 2025 is slowing down. Of course, the Longhorns are mighty thin on the defensive line for the upcoming season with just 86 snaps on the roster at the moment. The addition of Purdue DL Cole Brevard will help, but Texas is going to need a few more bodies out of the portal to get the 2025 roster to where it needs to be come SEC play. A look at some interesting options in the portal at the moment: *** Iowa State DL Tyler Onyedim 6'4" 295 pounds Redshirt Junior 1,194 career snaps The former Iowa State Cyc…

North Carolina portal defensive lineman Travis Shaw is in Austin, Texas for a visit he put on his Instagram story Saturday morning. Shaw entered the portal on December 10 after a season where he appeared in 13 games for the Tar Heels and racked up 337 snaps on the defensive side of the ball. Shaw has seen time as mostly a reserve for the last three years in Chapel Hill. In 2024, he racked up 20 tackles and 15 run stops per PFF. Texas of course is looking for four defensive linemen in the portal ahead of 2025. Shaw is listed at 6-foot-5-inches and 330 pounds. View full news story

The portal juice: Big game hunting The Texas Longhorns are big game hunting, or deep sea fishing as Steve Sarkisian once referenced in an interview. This morning, OnTexasFootball gives a rundown of the Longhorns efforts in the transfer portal. Joy Toia, DL, Inglewood (Calif.) Grace Brethren - *UCLA transfer Toia and family members made a visit over the weekend to Texas. By all accounts, the visit was a big success for Sarkisian, Kenny Baker and Johnny Nansen. Toia, 6-1 and 325 pounds, is considered a considerable Texas lean by OnTexasFootball. A decision without another visit is on the table. OTF percentage: 80% Damonic Williams, DL,…

Portal juice: The latest Texas' pursuit of TCU transfer Damonic Williams is the top defensive lineman the Longhorns are after out of the portal. With that said, there are two other names the Texas staff is monitoring. Michigan State 3-technique Simeon Barrow Jr. is talking to the Texas staff, and a visit next week has been discussed. Of course the mid-to-late week decision by Williams could impact Texas moving forward with another defensive lineman. Michigan State NG/shade Derrick Harmon could be in play if Williams goes to LSU, OU or Missouri as well. Harmon, 6-5 and 350, would help fill in a need over the ball in that event. Texas has talked to Ha…

Portal Kombat: Hoops recruiting update The Texas Longhorns basketball program is closing in on three big decisions out of the NCAA Transfer portal. OnTexasFootball brings you guys and gals the latest. Jordan Pope, PG/CG, Napa (Calif.) Prolific Prep - *Oregon State transfer The Texas Longhorns have confidence on the 6-1.5, 170 pound point guard after making visits last week to Texas and Texas A&M. The big question here is if any other teams attempt to enter the race late (ie an Arkansas or someone similar). Pope averaged 15.1 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game over 64 games (63 starts) in two seasons. He connected on 43.9% …

Portal Kombat: Texas leads for Toppin? The Texas Longhorns remain in search of one more big out of the portal to complete the 2024-25 front court and roster. And the top target on the board remains very much in play for the Horns. OnTexasFootball brings the latest on the portal recruiting front. The top target New Mexico freshman 6-9 forward JT Toppin is considered a Texas lean over Texas Tech and a couple of others as of Friday morning. OTF does not consider this a done deal for the Horns, to be clear. Texas has a very good feel for this recruitment, and remains in the pole position despite Texas Tech swinging big. Toppin averaged 12.4 points …

Portal Kombat: Three big men to know The Texas Longhorns are in search of one more big man out of the portal to complete the 2024-25 front court. And there are three names to know right now for Texas fans. OnTexasFootball brings the latest on the portal recruiting front. The top target New Mexico freshman 6-9 forward JT Toppin is a name to know for Texas fans. Toppin had a tremendous freshman campaign averaging 12.4 points and 9.1 rebounds in 36 games, including 35 starts. Toppin is going through NBA pre-draft workouts, but the expectation currently is that he will return to college for a second season. This should be considered a very toug…

Texas will be in the market for a cornerback following the departure of Terrance Brooks Tuesday morning. There remains plenty of time in the portal window to find options at the position, or to see a name or two pop into the fold. A few names at the cornerback spot Texas fans should be aware of as the hunt continues. *** Arizona CB Tacario Davis The Rundown: 6-foot-4 cornerback with one INT in 2023. Allowed 23 receptions on 53 targets (43.4%). PFF Grades: Defensive grade of 85.5 ... Coverage grade of 87.5 Our Gerry Hamilton gave a great rundown of the Arizona cornerback earlier today. We mentioned earlier today that Texas would likely be going after Cal tight end Jack Endries but that Endries could be headed to Indiana. Well, according to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Endries will be visiting Texas. As we’ve been saying, we expect Texas to be strategically aggressive in this portal window. View full news story

From the agent world, we’re hearing some very encouraging news for the Horns as it relates to a potential portal transfer. Would immediately be at the top or one of the top 2-3 at his position available. Plays defense. That’s all we’ll say for now. Portal officially opens Jan. 2. View full news story

We should learn a little more today on Utah punter Jack Bouwmeester. An Australian native, Bouwmeester averaged 44.4 yards per punt this year with 23 of his 60 boots being downed inside the 20. By comparison, Texas special teams averaged 39 yards per punt this season. Bouwmeester says he should have "more of an update" today. Note: while Texas is expected to look for a punter in the portal, we're unsure if Bouwmeester is the one the Horns are necessarily after.

- Running back Hollywood Smothers, Yale OL Mikey Bennett and Pitt LB Rasheem Biles were the only official visitors this weekend - Oklahoma State defensive end Wendell Gregory, who was named the Big 12 Defensive Freshman of the Year in 2025, is thought to be nearing a decision. Texas, Texas Tech and Wisconsin are all involved and he has visited all three schools. Gregory, who will be a redshirt sophomore, signed with South Carolina before transferring to the Cowboys, where he totaled four sacks, this past year. - With the pledges of running backs Raleek Brown and Hollywood Smothers, Christian Clark is expected to officially enter his name into the transfer p…

The portal officially opened at 12:01 am this morning. That means the Horns can now be openly aggressive in acquiring new talent. It also means the Horns are preparing to lose several players. With the news yesterday that Payton Kirkland and Billy Walton would enter the portal, added to S'Maje Burrell's announcement last week, that makes three Longhorns currently headed to the portal. Texas headed in to the spring with 89 scholarship players (if you include newcomers who are expected to arrive this summer). Texas must be at the NCAA 85-man limit by the start of fall practice. That means a net attrition of -4 is required. Texas is already at -3. More Lo…

Portal questions to be answered The dead period has been lifted, and now the final 60-meter all out sprint has begun. The Longhorns are expected to host a number of visitors through Friday night. Jordan Seaton and OL ... There hasn't been an official announcement that Seaton's name has populated in the portal as of 7:30 a.m. Until it does, or he shows up on a campus ... it's not worth my airspace. Jackson State OT Mason Barton (West Memphis, Ark./High) is scheduled to be in Austin today. The 6-foot-6, 310 pounder would be a developmental player if Texas makes him an offer. Texas does have a couple of other potential targets, and is closely w…
