Almost every Texas football season I remember can be summed up into two parts. What happens before OU. And what happens after. That’s what this game so often means. It’s the ultimate measuring stick of both programs. Texas DB commit Zelus Hicks has reclassified to the 2025 cycle. Our Gerry Hamilton had hinted at this move for a couple of months now and a month prior to signing day, it comes to fruition. The Longhorns will need to hold onto Hicks' pledge for one final month here. Hicks of course was at Tennessee over the weekend so the race isn't entirely over. CJ Vogel did some nice work yesterday pointing out that Kentucky has done a very good job of not letting opponents get off to a fast start against them. In fact, even though the Wildcats have won just one league game so far this year, not a single league opponent has scored more than 7 points in the first quarter against them. Even Florida and South Carolina, the only two blowout losses for UK this year, scored 3 and 7 points in the first quarter, respectively. It’s something to watch for on Saturday. Texas is moving on and will spend New Years in Atlanta. *** Run Game Thriving For the third time in four games Texas rushed for more than 230 yards. Of course, the one outlier here is the Georgia game where Texas totaled just 31 yards on the ground on the afternoon in Atlanta. One of the players we were concerned about potentially entering the portal was defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell. The talented sophomore from Oradell, N.J., struggled early in spring camp with his weight and conditioning, perhaps due to some lingering medical issues. However, Mitchell finished the spring strong. He was among a group of Longhorn players thought to be considering the portal. But we are told the 360+ pounder has decided to continue his educational and athletic career at Texas. Texas will host San Jose State cornerback Jayvion Cole for a visit beginning around noon this afternoon. Cole will remain on campus for his visit with Texas through Saturday as the staff presents its best pitch to the All-Mountain West honorable mention in 2023. The Longhorns are looking to add to the cornerback room following the portal departures of Terrance Brooks and Austin Jordan earlier in the portal window. According to PFF, Cole allowed 22 receptions in 48 targets for a 45.8% completion percentage against. PFF awarded Cole an 84.0 grade in coverage and a 86.2 grade overall defensively. Another commit in the 2025 bag! Texas has earned a commitment from 2025 Port Neches Groves OL Jackson Christian. A head to head victory over Texas A&M goes live after the PNG spring game this evening in which both Kyle Flood and our Gerry Hamilton were in attendance for. Kelshaun Johnson post visit update OnTexasFootball spoke just now with Kelshaun Johnson. The 4-star WR from Hitchcock (Texas) High told OTF that Texas and Texas A&M are 50-50 after the weekend. Johnson also said he’s unsure if he will make the June 21-23 OV to USC this weekend. This will be a Texas vs Texas A&M decision, and could be sooner rather than later.

Hook 'Em! The Texas Longhorns have added to their 2025 recruiting class with the commitment of CB Graceson Littleton out of Wiregrass Ranch HS in Tampa, Florida. Texas swoops in late in this recruitment and made a heck of an impression to pull off the recruiting win over Michigan after Littleton decommitted from Clemson at the beginning of November. At 6-feet, and 180 pounds, Littleton has a wiry frame with superb quickness and change of direction ability.
